Title: W98 - how to reset wrong Refresh when U/S
Post by: Sparks on August 07, 2004, 10:40:07 AM
Hi all

Just loaded new Hercules drivers on my parents PC and its set  a refresh rate that the monitor won't run and got the usual pyjama stripes and no desktop

How do I reset it - Registry setting in Safe mode ????

Any help appreciated

Hold F8  during start that will boot 98 in safe mode.

oops mines  F5 during start up to get to safe mode ...

then right clic on desktop , go to properties , then settings . you can reset them in there .

Yes I can do that but any changes you make in safe mode are for the standard VGA driver and are not carried over to the card specific driver that loads at normal boot.

It seems the latest Nvidia drivers (30.82) don't like it on this machine. I have reverted to a much older driver and all is ok.  Load the new drivers and bang - refresh goes daft.

got to the nvidia website and load the newest drivers save them in a folder (dont install yet)  they should be 56.xx drivers,

then remove all the nvidia drivers while in safe mode

the 30.82's or older wont work with ah2

and the 42.xx drivers suk they wont work either.
