Title: Price Watch - For those in need of upgrade
Post by: FT_Animal on August 08, 2004, 01:56:27 PM
http://www.pricewatch.com

If you click on the items listed it will take you to where you can get it at the listed price.

Some here may be surprised at the prices of slitely dated but still extremely fast CPU - MB combos

http://www.newegg.com  if you want a site that actually honors their listed prices.

Everytime I've used pricewatch the vendor would try to pull some scam and charge you more.

Newegg rocks, great service. You won't find a better place to buy components. Highly recommended.

Yikes...I bought my PC for only 600 and I got a p4 2.8ghz, 1024mb of ddr pc3200 ram, an ATI Radeon 9600XT 128mb vid card, a CD-ROM/RW drive, a DVD-ROM drive, some fans, preinstalled software including WinXP.  The only thing I was missing was a sound card, but I do have a nice onboard sound configuration.

I'd look around a bit more, some of the smaller stores actually have good deals on packages and not just individual parts.  Combo's are always fine too but ya gotta watch out for what your gettin.

And another hard lesson...as intriguing as Tom's Hardware reviews are....refer to other reviews too.  Twice I bought their "highly reccomended" items and got terrible products that were just utter disasters.

Use many resources!

I've purchased from pricewatch about 8 times and never been screwed. Don;t buy from Bzboys though, they suck. Some of the vendors will try to sell you other stuff just don't let them. Threaten to leave negative feedback and they'll honor the prices.

At least that has been my experience. BTW Skuzzy, put this into the hardware forum.

Also, if you shop newegg, check zipzoomfly.com  as well.  Very competitive with them...Ive found for many things they are $2-$4 cheaper...and fre shipping (like newegg)...but hey, we're talking beer money now :)

bought a motherboard off of pricewatch from a company called GearXS. Worst experience from buying online ever. They sent a faulty nonworking piece of junk that isnt even worth throwing against a brick wall like a frisbee. Sent it back several weeks ago. Talked to some **** over there refund is way overdue. Im letting the BBB handle this one and left them neg feedback. Turns out that they have had a lot of faulty MB's come back. freaken crooks.
