Title: Obama v Keyes
Post by: Toad on August 09, 2004, 10:02:55 AM
I didn't/don't always agree with Keyes but I always did respect him for being pretty much a straight shooter.

Now this; isn't there ANYONE who can stick to their principles anymore?

What'd they call them post-Civil War? Carpetbaggers?

Keyes challenges Obama for Illinois Senate seat (http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/08/senate.illinois.keyes/index.html)

Keyes had been critical of former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's run for Senate from New York in 2000, saying he "certainly wouldn't imitate her" by running for office from a state where he didn't live.

They should ammend the rules to say you must have been BORN there and maintained residence for the 5 years previous to running.

They should cut the size of the federal government by 50% so we don't have to care about politicians so damb much.

Bill Maher said something like "Incredible that the Republicans couldn't find a black man in Chicago".

In the entire state of Illinois they could not find 1 man or woman (black, white or purple) to run against Obama. :lol

Bah.

No more incredible than the inability of the Democrats to find a white woman who lived in New York.

But what ticks me is Keyes turning against his own principles.

For what? He's got a decent job already.

It just seems to me...

I can't get elected to the office I want in my own state..so I'll go somewhere that I might have a chance to win and represent people and their issues that I no nothing about. When people let people like that get elected then they deserve what they get.

At least the Guvernator was a Cali resident for what... 20+ years before he ran?

There needs to be a minimum residency requirement.  The thing is, this type of legislature will have to come from the people since politicians aren't that adept ad limiting their own choices... only ours.
