LOL I can not find a map to look at! I have a feeling this is the way it is designed?
Pretty cool game, and I have only got lost a few times. Still automap of some kind would be nice.
-
The original game didn't either. I'm not crazy about the game but I'll give ID credit for staying true to the name of Doom. You still have to find keys and all that suff too.
I'm not sure if I regret having paid top dollar for a pre-order or not. I certainly had more fun in the BoB scenario than I did playing Doom3.
-
Doom3 doesn't, but I thought the original did have a map... ?
-
It has been so long since I played the original, I can not remeber.
I like doom 3. I am not upset at paying 55$ for it.
-
The original Doom had a map, but it would only show the parts you already explored. It was a keyboard command to bring it up, but I cannot remember the default.
I do not care for Doom3 myself. Another typically dark, dank, and dreary Id game. They depress me with thier lack of color. The original Doom was much better in that regard.

I agree it is dark, but the original doom never scared me or made me jump. This ones does lol.
My dog came over and nudged me to get a pet, and I practacly jumped out of my seat!
It reminds me of system shock. That was a FANTASTIC game.
-
"System Shock" was about my limit in darkness. It was fun.
-
I never played 2.
Is it worth picking up? Does it run in 2000/XP?
You ever play 1 Gs?
Great game, though my all time fav was Underworld, but the same crew.
-
i beleive the standard default key for maps in doom wolfensteind 3d and blake stone was TAB
-
Tab brings up your PDA. With no map.

never said it would, just said thats what it did in the original doom :)
-
GtoRA2, it absolutely is worth picking up. Runs on Win 2000 and XP fine with a little patch available online.
-
Wilfred,
Did you play both it and the first one?
Was it as good as SS1?
-
Sadly I never played SS1. I sold a lot of them in my first job in '94 though; I think you'd find the graphics a bit rough these days.
SS2 came out in '99 so is aging slightly but the game isnt about gfx so much as atmosphere. I only played it for the first time about a month ago and devoted a weekend to it, playing pretty much non-stop.
-
is ss or ss2 free or is a demo available?

hehe
outstanding analog holiday :)
only one day that was partly clouded and air temps 25-28'ish and 22-25 in the water.
Some good sailing (when baby and wive went ashore) and sunbathing. I now look like a blonde Will Smith, only good looking :D
-
If it doesn't have a lot of colors, a distinct CyberDemon "RAWWWR", co-op mode, and groups of 20-30 enemies at a time, then it isn't DooM.
ID's single player games went downhill fast starting with Quake. Too dark and dreary and repetative.

Is there an official patch? AFAIK, there is the no-CD "patch" but nothing else.
-
This thread (http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread20874-1.html) should get you started with win 2000 although a few related threads show people having problems, I've played it on win 2k but was some time ago.
Certainly worth the effort I think, excellent game.

Isn't Deus Ex the errm follow up to System Shock? (don't mean Deus Ex 2) Have SS2 but never did play it.
Can't really see the need for a map in Doom 3, sure it would have been nice for the sprints when exposed to the atmosphere but other than that, the game pretty much herds you the right way.
For the 69.99(cdn) I paid for Doom 3 it came with Deus Ex2, and a pewter figurine! I didn't realize it did when I bought it, I was just hoping for the DX2:IW for free.
Heh I don't regret spending the money one bit. I love the game.
Quake 3 was a big dissappointment for me, with players running a billion miles an hour and no single player at all..
Unreal 2.. ick, played it for about an hr before I grew tired of it, just abit too fantastical... I have very little interest for these tournament style games with absolutely no ties to reality.
COD, MOH those appeal to me based on their at least somewhat realistic aspects.
DX2 could have been much better(damn PC port from an xbox game... dx1 had mirrors.. not seen one in dx2), its too dark, but in a different way relative to Doom 3, at least D3 has an effective flashlight.. Dx2 is interesting as its not as linear as D3, hell next to D3 DX2 is wide open and requires some thought and planning...
I am taking my time with D3 and enjoying it, hopefully won't be long to wait for HL2..
