A sick undercarriage about to be put down?
-
Plane is a B-25 mitchell? no idea who person is.
-
doolittle?
-
"I caught my wife cheating on me so I went and stole the Captain's pistol. Nice isn't it? Too bad I only loaded it with two rounds. One for the guy, one for the dame. Then its on a plane to Cairo, I hear they have nice women down there. Want to come with me?"
-
Its a B24..
-
Nah, too small for 24. What was that little brit medium? The wellington?
-
I'm with Pongo.
B24.. with RAF Roundels, it would imply the lend-lease version which, I think, just used 'Liberator' as title.
Since there's no waist gunner position, perhaps it is the C-87.. cargo version.. which was also 'sold' as lend-lease.
-
Ok I give in. You'r e right about B-24 variant, look at this view:
lack of windows, side gunner noted as well. tropical background, roundels, hat badge
-
Liberator Mk II I guess.
-
RAAF B-24D
Tronsky
-
umm local ATS tyre fitter?:lol
-
Its a B24 (or some version thereof). Strut has gear cover on the side, b25 gear moved back and forth with gear doors on engine nacells.
Fellow with the pistol? New way to adjust the tire pressure?
-
My first guess was a B-25 due to the distance from the landing gear to the tail. But after looking at the gear assembly it's more likely a B-24....Still the distance from the gear to the tail looks awfully short...
-
My first reaction discounted b24 for same reason -- but I think it'a optical illusion. Check out the gear on the confirmed B24 I posted above, adn see that it's identical. The only question is what version -- and as clues we have the brit by the gear, the tropical background, and the lack of windows and side door.
-
It's either a Webley & Scott or an Enfield .38 revolver. The Enfield is almost an exact copy of the W&S, so it's almost impossible to tell from this photo.
-
Can't remember the designation, Lodestar (sp?) was the plane's name... but wasn't it a taildragger?
-
I guess you gent's haven't been to a CAF airshow?
It's a B-24.
The plane in the color photo is the CAF's B-24/LB-30 Diamond Lil.
I was aboard it several weeks ago when it and FiFi (B-29A) visited here on Long Island.
My regards,
Widewing

Diamond Lil has rondels, and a guy with a pistol? You looking at the right picture?
-
Liberator, it is:)
RAAF Liberator to be exact, Location India, circa 45.
-

Read my post again....
The color photo is Diamond Lil, not the black and white lead photo.....

RAF in the CBI also used the 2 colour roundels: the red was removed to prevent confusion with the red sun symbol on Japanase a/c.

thanks pei -- didnt know that. Makes me feel better :)
And, sorry widewing -- I read your post too fast and missed the word "color". My bad.
