HTC, you might want to take notice of just how much V-sync affects your game.
With V-sync enabled, I was able to pull about 24 frames average on a field with no smoke, nothing, at 800x600 with 256 textures and settings at Highest performance.
With V-sync disabled, I was able to pull 35 frames average on the same field at 1024x768 with 1024 textures and settings at highest quality!
In optimum conditions, I would pull upwards of 120 frames instead of the previous max of 70!
I think you may need to look at just how much vsync changes the display of AHII. I believe you could stumble across some ways to majorly improve the performace for some of these poor guys that are getting low frames even with proper requirements.
My setup:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200
512 DDR ram
Advance AC '97 Audio onboard
VIA chipset motherboard
40 Gig Maxtor HD

That is wierd. I always thought v synch only capped your frame rate at monitor refresh.. All other situations it made no difference.

You have to realise that with vsync OFF your getting partial screen writes, instead of a full screen.
This can lead to some very strange visual effects.

They are aware that with V-sync off that your frame rates improve. Like Ghost said.. don't always rely on satifactory
graphics. read up on what V-Sync actually does and you'll know
why they suggest to have it on.

i have read up on it. I do know that it stops some adverse graphics effects from occuring, but as as far as I can see. Tearing is not a problem Ive experienced with AH. Also is seems extremely odd for that much of a frame rate jump with vsync. Far Cry and other more intensive games dont come close to that kind of jump.

eh, if it works for you, I'd say go for it. I tried mine with
V-sync off and also didn't have video problems..but for
some ODD reason, it didn't improve my framerates either, so
I just turned it back on.
