Picked up a Saitek X45 and cannot get AH to recognize the view keys mapped to the second 8-way hat switch.
If I use the Saitek SST software and calibration routine it see's it and appears to be working fine. When I try mapping it via AH I get nothing. Any ideas???
(fyi hat switch 1 mapped fine)

I used to have an older X36 stick, and the 2nd hat was only really a 4-way hat... maybe that's still the case with the 45.

You still have to map the views in AH.
Because the SST; just like the Cougar software; is a keyboard emulator; you can map a hat switch when pressed (for example) to the "up" position to tell windows that that switch input sends out a keypad 8 key input.
But you still have to tell AH that keypad 8 should mean "look up".
So; first step is to make sure how your keyboard and joystick is mapped in AH; then start playing with SST.
By the way; a simple way to check how SST is working is to try opening up notepad and try to "write" in it with your joystick. If (for example) you've set up a hat switch as a keypad; then you should be able to type numbers with the hat switch.

Crashy,
I use the X-45, but just skipped Saiteks stick setup software. Just pluged it in, let windows find it, and set it up in AH.
When I did use the Saitek software, I kept having to re-load the configuration (and toggle the auto-load function sometimes) to get it to work right.
I just use the default stick setups in most games, but then I only really use it for AH and OFP

I have been using the X45 and SST for a year now. I really love this stick.
One recomendation....Do NOT use the packaged software. Go to Saitek website and download the latest version for your stick. The software that came packaged in the box doesnt even recognize some of the hats. When you set the stick up make sure you select advanced user when installing it.
After you have a profile created for the game it requires a simple right click on the system tray icon and and selection of you profile to get preped to fly with it.

you must have the current XP drivers for it to work with XP. they do not come on the disk
also to get the full usage from the stick (all hats and stuff) you need to use the programming software. when installing the software you are prompted with an option to use advanced mode. TRUST me it is worth it.
over 100 buttons in 3 modes, 3 8 way hats 1 4 way hat, too much to list.

JB73,
Any chance you would like to share the stick profile?

Heres my take on Saitek. And I have the X-52 and rudders, which I bought separate.
Hat#1 is my views. Now On my throttle I have "down and "UP" mapped in SST to two buttons. I can use left/up by moving my hat #1 left while depressing the throttle button I have mapped in SST to up.
Generally you can only map in Aces High the buttons that light up in the E6B when you press them. For instance the 3 little buttons on my throttle "function" "start/stop" "reset" activate in AH controller so I can map them in AH. All the other buttons, beside Hat#1 and those 3, dont activate in AH controller so I have to map them separate in Saiteks SST software.
Which can be problematic, "many others report no problems". Some 2 keystroke commands wont map in SST so I had to do a lot of re-arranging, unmapping commands, and then re-mapping them to a 1 stroke command, "in AH keyboard/controller". Then I would map the command into my SST. All this is a reason I dont give others my SST profiles, which is, of course, I have such a hybrid, personalized SST profile/AH key controller that nobody else could make sense out of it anyways. Let alone map it. In the end your going to have to make your own personalized profile.
Of course others reports zero problems. The big reason I like the SST software is because you can use the pinkie switch/Latch so that every button and switch, and the X-52 has a lot, can have 2 separate commands mapped to it. Anyway the end result is I can play the game, in any plane or vehicle, and never have to touch the keyboard. Everything is mapped on my X-52 and throttle
I had a lot of aggravation when I first started since I never game before and knew nothing of any of this. I will "probably" stay with Saitek and "probably" buy another X-52 Pro flight. We'll see. :salute

do u re name it?

you have to put the profile file in the saitek sst directory but its been so long since I've used their software, I dont recall exactly.
The way AH is setup now, you don't need to run the saitek software - you can program all your controls from inside the game itself. Doing so has one less process needed to run the game.
