Title: Ideas for simulating rivets in Photoshop
Post by: coyo on August 11, 2004, 11:28:34 AM
Hi guys(or girls),

I am looking for ideas on simulating rivets. The only way I have found to do so in Photoshop is with the airbrush tool, by adjusting the spacing to say 500. I set the airbrush for small circle and drag it quickly across the work area, using a book edge to guide the mouse in a straight line.

I am thinking there "must be a better way!"

any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA coyote

Instead of using a book edge to guide the mouse (very clever, btw), shift-click.

Click (and release) once at the beginning of your line. Then move the mouse to the end of the line and Shift-click... Photoshop will draw a perfectly straight line between the clicks.

Hold the shift key down and you can keep drawing line segments all day.

And someone posted earlier.

Create a custom line with the rivit pattern, like a doted line and just lay them down that way.

Be sure to put the rivits in a separate layer, it makes it much easier to do the drop shadow effect.  Search this formum for the details as I don't use Photoshop myself.

Gee Dux, thanks for the info; that makes this so much easier!
I will put this to use on the P47 wing skin--With this new info, it should go alot faster than the fueselage...
