Just a quick post saying that I feel many concessions have been given to the instant action furballer clientelle of this fine game. We had a kick bellybutton icon system in beta - which got ditched, once beautiful and tactical nights (short though they were) - which got ditched and I can see sun glare going the same way, the means to hamper the enemy's ability to fight (fuel porkage) - which got ditched. I mean selecting "attack" in the hanger loadout makes you a virtual pariah according to this BBS.
Ok, a whinge so far, here's the kicker: fine, have the MA like this and even tune it further to the furballers side but give the simmers TOD. You quake boys can do what you want with the MA, just keep your grubby whinging hands of this next instalment from HTC.
Just so you know where I'm coming from, I want more from AHII than killing more guys that kill me. I want tactics, team effort, cost (in terms of dying), attrition - Man I want war, and I want it to be bloody difficult!
There.. that's better.

Why not leave the MA how it is now? If someone wants to furball, let them. If someone want to bomb strat targets, let them.

Yep, agreed. TOD is going to be aimed more at the"box gamer" than at MA addicts.

Do I have a problem with my command of English? Do I misunderstand this reply with relation to the thread?
TOD is going to be Strat as I'm lead to believe. I really feel the "click, fly, die" crew are already infesting err established in MA.
Bring on the TOD. Bring on a game where organisation, stratigy and THINKING are key eliments. Other than "Up, point, fire, die".
As to ACK ACK reply. I think you'll find Darkish said leave it (MA) or tune it (MA) to the furballers. What Darkish refers to as the "Gamboy" eliment.
MA suits the "Want it now" personality where as TOD will be for the more "patient" personality. Take this as you will:rolleyes:

Prove that is was the "furballers" than got it changed. From what I remember, both sides of the fence were pretty vocal about it.

Might as well turn up the volume.

Don't worry ... the Strat and Realism boys will be lobbying for changes over there once it's in action ... wait and see. Then who will you have to blame.
Nothing really has changed in the MA outside of making things more difficult ... err Realistic ... too hard for ya I guess.

Other than "Up, point, fire, die".
As opposed to ... "Up, get alt, dive, auger, die" ... sounds like a real man's THINKing game to me.

In TOD you WILL have organisation, strategy and thinking allright, but it will be done for you nor BY you.
It will lean more to the "box gamer" in the fact that it will be based on what I call the "jump through a hoop for a bone" format. It will not be a fly anytime you want to setup.
It , I think, will encourage and promote a new type of online player in the flight sim world. It will interest the "box gamer". I`m not saying that is a bad thing, but quite the reverse. It will accomplish two things IMO. It will open up a whole new online world for the "box gamer" and will also relieve AH Classic of the "box gamer" frame of mind.

...5.0? maybe 6.0?
Seems to be enough room for everyone.
-
Hate to say it but the game, strategy wise, is pretty worthless now. Sad thing is its not even the games fault. Hitech, just make sure you include some coding for human nature in the next version.

Slapshot, this conclusion is the polar opposite of my whinge - I would love to know how you equate instant AC ident at 6k, an inexhaustible supply of planes and field capacity, no night and a min fuel porkage with making things more difficult/realistic (not to mention a radar system far advanced in years than that of the planeset).
All I'm hoping for is that TOD will go some way to model the playing environment that WILL make it all the more harder and challenging.
-
Darkish: Making things harder does not equate to making things more challaging.
When a game is based on fighting other people, changing things always effects everyone equaly. So eveone one has the same choices, and hence the real challeng of doing it better then the other guy does not change.
Things we change are not based on furball or strat type choices, they are normaly based on realism and what creates fun game play.
The only change we made with the icon system, was adding the + - . This was done to add more information that we belive would be percieved in a real plane.
The fuel change was do to an original design problem. From the start the strat system was designed to limit a countries offensive abilities, not its ability to fight. The fuel was changed because it was out of balance, and gave one person to much ability to change a battle.

I wonder then HT if fuel porking for jabos and bombers shouldn't be able to go down to 25%, even tho they can go quite a ways on 25%. Just wonderin.

Ya know ... your right about my conclusion about the "difficult" statement ... my apologies.
But, you haven't addressed the rest of my post. Prove to me how you can blame all these changes on the "furballers".

...actually , now that I think of it, thats what hitting ammo is all about....ok ignore this...carry on...as you were....don't mind me..

Why do you like the night? What makes it "beautiful" or "tactical"? What makes it better for the strat game?
-
Unless you have a separate club, where only those who wish to fly or play a certain way are excepted, you will always have others who want something different from the game you play. I suggest joining into the CT with folks that want the same as you.
There has to be one place where anything can happen..at the moment its MA.

First let me address the misconception you have of ToD. ToD is not geared to the 'strat' player. It is geared to the Role Player, the one that want's to simulate the day in the life of a World War II pilot. Be it as a figher pilot or a bomber pilot.
The MA is fine how it is now, there is no need to 'tweak it' to fit the playing style of one over the other. The main arena can easily support both styles of players and it's been doing it for over 5 years.
Add new maps to the MA but leave the game mechanics alone, it works.

"Add new maps to the MA but leave the game mechanics alone, it works."
Just hope they are all similar to FesterMA.

My misconception realised. Thanks for pointing that out. I look forward to checking it out and bombing the daylights out of ??
In reference to the MA I have no objections other than Night Time. Otherwise I can / do live with it. I, however, resever judgment on some antics deployed in MA.

Personally, I'd like to see the return of night time as well but the problem with that was a lot of pilots would just crank up the gamma on their video cards. That resulted in turning night into day for those that did it.
As for the antics employed by some in the MA, well that's not a product of the MA but the pilot themselves.

In the cold light of day (hangover subsided), I must admit that my post was heavy handed.
- On how the MA is played, well that's a can of worms I won't be opening, but I'm on the side of "it's my money, I'll do what I want"
to the tune of, "I may not agree with you but I'll defend your right to say it". (sry - badly paraphrased)
Why do I want a bit of night? Well it's down to a craving for variety - this is reflected in the way I play, an all rounder/jack of all trades and what I fly is dependant on the current state of the front.
I'm sure we had an icon system once where they faded out the further away the con was.
I apologise for a slightly drunken rant by someone who was temporarily confused as to the goal of the MA - I remember now, it's to have fun in - sometimes get caught up in it all and take it a bit too seriously. However I am still fearful of the MA mentality resembling Animal farm; with the guys that do the dirty work (horses) and the furballers (pigs).

Ahhh...see we now get to the crux of the matter. You're a buffer and resent the furballer. Hate to tell you but without us furballers to take care of the enemy fighters, they'd be all over your buffs.

Darkish: Icon's havn't changed, it just depends what the fog range is set at. During some of beta we we had short fog ranges.

I still don't follow you. Variety...well X-Wings and Tie Fighters would add variety too, but you probably don't want that. Why night?

LOL. Good grief. No, that resemblance does not exist.
