Grunherz are you going to bring Voss into every single aviation related thread on this aviation related BBS?

If yes, let me know so I can put you on 'Ignore'. Thanks.

There's a reason why they always state in the briefing, "NO BLIND LEAD TURNS".

1 spool of digital video tape - $5 dollars

2 F-15 Cs - $ 60 million USD

Playing "Bumper Cars" at 250kts and getting it on film?

Priceless.

That deserved an "OWNED" icon.

Damm, all I get when I try to open it is a screen full of code.

Checking out the home page there are several well known videos there including one described as a 'tragic mid-air'.  Well it wasn't tragic,  only minor injuries. The main apparently being a broken jaw when the pilot of the second Mig caught up with the pilot of the first.

I remember seeing video of one of the pilots casually walking across the field carrying his chute and lighting a cigarette.  I'll bet he had something stronger later.

No for sure.  No one was killed or seriously injured. A few narrow escapes though. The word miraculous was bandied around for a while afterwards. It happened at the 1993 Fairford Airshow in Gloucestershire, England.  Still probably the best military airshown in the world.

That film is rather interesting.  After looking at it over and over it's hard to tell who's at fault.

The HUD symbology actually says alot though.  Well I know for a fact he was in boresight mode, AIM9 selected as primary, he was doing 340 kts and he had to have known where his con was headed.

That white blotch that you see right of center is his seeker head position symbol.  You can also hear the AIM9 growl in the audio.  He did have his Target aspect angle symbology which should have told him right off the bat they were currently at a path inwhich they may collide.  His A/A target designator also told him the relative position of the contact when it went out of view.  Coupling this symbol and his Target aspect angle symbol he should have called knock it off when they were that close.  Considering one was telling him that the contact would be coming up and to his 10 oclock position on his HUD and the other specifically showed that the con was below him.

It's easy to say this after looking at his video but their closure rate must have been extremely high and it would have been a cat like reaction to avoid this.  The problem is he didn't go to his first detent on his trigger until they were extremely close.  Had he started his recording earlier it may infact show that they pushed too hard during the engagement and made the collision course inevitable.  Either way sounds like he may have survived.  He was concious after the collision and calling mayday.
