i am pretty disgusted to say that i have not seen any olive drab painted B-17's. all i have seen are these shiny silver bombers. if you want to be as accurate as possible, you might want to consider putting a few more skins on the game suchas the "Memphis Belle" or "Yankee Doodle" they could have different nose art and everything. just think of the war time era. i will tell you a good web site to look at it is under the "Mighty Eighth" you will find more than what you need. thank you for your time if you actually read this.

I've seen a black B17. Still waiting on a green bomber, green looks good on fire. :p

uhhhh, did the community hire an art director?

"Rosies Riveters" from the 100th HBG would be nice

Or "Miss Conduct" also with the 100th

We don't have the dark green B-17 modeled in AH.
"Rosies Riveters" is a good example of the early green B-17s, an "F" model if I recall. Notice that it isn't the "G" model we have in the game, you can tell because there's no chin gun and the waist guns are not staggered. The closest we can do is the "light green" model but even those didn't have the Cheyenne tail gun or staggered waist guns.

To do skins such as Rosies Riveters we'd first have to get confirmation from HTC as to whether or not they'd accept a skin which was flown on a different model.
There are very noticeable differences with earlier B-17s that may discourage HTC from allowing them. The B-17Gs had the following additions in comparison to the Fs. The Gs had dual .50 cal nose guns and nose turret, staggered waste gunner positions, and I haven't seen any earlier models yet with the cheyenne window. The Fs had a single .50 nose gun, no cheyenne window, no staggered waste gunners, open waste gunner postions(may have had late war mods for this though), no chin turret, and last but not least they had a single .50 in the radio gunner position.

there is a saying
if you want something dome do it yourself.
just a idea
these skins are done by people who enjoy trying things and making them they are not paid and some do not even get taken by HTC to be put in the MA.
keep up the good work guys

so they wouldnot be historically accurate skins.
I did, however, see a green b-17g skin a few days ago on the skins page. Hopefully it was submitted to HTC for approval

Early G models were painted Olive Drab. It wasn't until late 1944/early 45 before new bomber were delivered unpainted. Depending on the aircraft you could have darker or lighter planes. You are right about the gun positions and the cheyenne tail, those are in later model Gs but that is really nit picking IMHO.
The 457th BG had a bomber named arfnarf (I think) that was a G with a camo front and silver back, made from two different bombers that were pieced together.
So an olive drab G model would be historically accurate.

That's not why we don't have colored b-17s yet...
The reason we don't is because the "silver" gloss on most shiny US planes is hard coded in! If you do a green it looks all freaky and shiny and stuff. Nothing you can do to fix it. As such most people just leave it be, and don't bother.
Most are waiting for the B-17 skin to be remapped anyways. Then they'll try it.
Oh, and HT has said he'd accept spit versions that aren't in the game (I think the example was a Spit VII skin for the SpitV plane) so I see no problem with skinning a non-cheyenne tailed b-17, or hell, even a B-17F. Now the B/C/D/E LOL those might be a bit off.
My $0.02 ($3.98 CAN)

If you can post links to a couple of examples I'm sure someone will produce the skin. Bombers are a lot of work and without the documentation to submit to htc, it's likely the skin won't be accepted so it would be a waste of time IMO. As rogerdee said, if you want something done... ;)
