Title: Dinah and Jack

I am fairly unfamilliar about the JPN plane set. I always liked the chubby fat jack, sort of a GeeBee funky design. As far as the Dinah, look like a blown up version of a DB5 :D

What can we expect from those planes? What would be their MA equivalent?

going off basic memory, and just to get the thread started:

The Jack might be closest to the La-5 in basic concept, just not as good performance. A fast climber, with decent overall performance. Not the fastest plane around, and I can't imagine it was a great turner (compared to other Japanese planes) but better in the verticle.

The Dinah was a fast scout plane, that carried a very limited bombload. I always think of the AW Mossie, that didn't have any guns.

The J2M Raiden "Jack" was an interceptor.  Good climb rate, decent firepower, good dive capability, not so hot on manuverability or speed (speed is a common problem with Japanese aircraft).

The Ki-46 "Dinah" was a photo-recon aircraft.  For the first year or so it was essentially uninterceptable with it's top speed of 386mph and allowed the Japanese to watch everything the Allies did within it's range.  It had no armor or selfsealing tanks though. Later they turned it into a so so nightfighter with upward firing guns, but they stepped the cockpit when they did and ruined it's clean looks.

If so, the J2M has a great climb rate. Turning is ok, but overall, it's a good fighter.

Notice thier Niki has 6 guns. Must be mgs in the cowl.

Theirs is an N1K1-J, ours is an N1K2-J.

Theirs will have much less cannon ammo as well.  Can't quite recall if the cannons are split, two Type 99 Model 1s and two Type 99 Model 2s though.  I know the J2M3 had split cannon like that and the J2M3a and on had only Type 99 Model 2 cannon.

Pongo, those gun ports were never used in the N1K2-J.  There was a prototype with machine guns in it, but never made production.  The gun ports were used in earlier varients where the N1K2-J originated from (I forget which) but the machine guns were removed during development.  The ports remained, possibly in anticipation of using it again.

Yes they do. They are pushing the limits of thier smaller texture sizes. If they had AHII sized ones they could look way better.
