http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/AH2007T2008.EXE

Patch 8 Changes
======================

Radar circles now turn red if the radar is destroyed.

Planes can now operate WEP without RPM having to be maxed.

Fixed a bug that was causing planes not to collide with other planes correctly.

Fixed a bug that was causing a corrupted display in the hangar list.

Bomber and bomber formation guns now converge at 500 yards instead of 1000.

Base icons should now flash or not flash correctly when you first enter the arena.

Fixed a bug that was causing base radar to still function when destroyed.

Added a new country balancer that disables available planes based on country number
imbalances and plane ENY values. NOTE: Values for this system may change as the
system is optimized.

You now get a message box on login when your account is out of balance.

Adjusted combat trim settings on the P-51D and P-51B.

Fixed a bug that caused the Ju 88 to lose power at 30k.

Made changes to the armor penetration model. Small caliber weapons (20mm and below)
have less penetration. Fixed a problem with HE munitions that was giving them too
much armor penetration from proximity hits.

I'm not suprised they did something, even with the somewhat negative response to the concept.

I am surprised at how fast the side balancing code was added.

That would be really, REALLY cruel.  HTC isn't out to be cruel, they're out to make a game and business that works.  Gratuitious cruelty would hurt that effort.

This is bad.

Look, the numbers are part of the dynamic, the politics, the whinefests, the very essence and fabric of the game.

No country dominates forever. Eventually every country gets its hoard. Folks who hate it can always change sides. Many squads tour every country.

As it was, we had variety. Some nights the numbers were even, some nights they weren't. The fortunes of war.

BUT you have removed the player's choice of being on the defensive, playing in the hoard, or somewhere in between. THIS ALSO IGNORES THE POSSIBILITIES TO ENHANCE THE STRAT SYSTEM! Give us an interesting (fun) way to keep those hoards starving for something and the differential in numbers actually enhances the gameplay. Er, sorry, simulation immersion.

I really hate the idea of artificially changing something so fundamental. This stuff, combined with the limited fuel porking is making the strategy monotonous. All that works is swarming airfields.

Plus it ain't realistic at all. A country with 2:1 odds ain't gonna be having 'automatic' hindrances.

Give us things to pork, let people join whichever side they choose, then fix the display ordering bugs. I'm flipping panzers like crazy.

Thanks in Advance,

Mullah

From a realism standpoint you could say that a country having to build twice as many planes with the same resources is more likely to have shortages.

I should have posted this in the original thread about it, but what about the numbers on each country dynamicly changing either the down times of stuff, or the number of troops required? If you have over xxx numers than the other side it requires 20 troops to capture and down times for your base stuff is doubled?

Wow. I haven't gone online yet and seen this in action, but based on people's response and the description of the new "feature" I have my own concerns:

1) Part of the allure of a game like AH is the attachment the players develop for "their plane." Some people love P51D's, some 109F's, and so on. When you take away their plane of choice - their sentimental and emotional choice for how they play the game - for reasons which are beyond their control that will come across as unfair.

2) "Go change countries" - why should you have to?  So an hour later when everyone does that you're stuck for 24 hours in planes you don't want to fly?

3) This really penalizes the people who don't play every night. If you only have time to fly a couple night a week, and when you show up you can't fly what you like to fly, or have to change sides to do so (for a while) - why even bother? (This is not an incitement to "strike" - just the perspective of someone who doesn't play this game every night.)

4) The "problem" I saw with Perks is that these are only a limiting factor to people who can't play 4 hours a night. So Perk'ing the La7 and P51 and so on would cut down on the numbers of these planes, but really only by taking them away from the "low mileage" players. So I can see why HT felt he had to do something - just I don't think this was the answer.

5) "Learn to fly other planes" ... again, why should you be FORCED to? I fly 3 or 4 different fighters, so this don't matter much to me. But a lot of people don't want to learn another plane, don't want to mess up something that's working for them, or simply don't have the experience needed to transition to another plane every other day.

6) Imbalanced odds have always been part of this game. It usually self-regulates because if you're on a country which always outnumbers everyone it tends to get kind of dull.

So ... what about a compromise. Suppose this new load-balancer only affected plane availability at captured fields? Meaning if you're country has 2:1 odds on people, once you start gaining ground you have to sustain your offensive without La7's and all  the quasi-uber planes.

Or ... what if some planes were semi-perked? That is, they become perked when the load-balancer kicks in and stay perked until the odds settle down. At least then you let players have their choice.
