Re-installed my tcp/ip protocal, re-installed a 4 year old internal isa usrx 28,8 modem using an internal 28,8 pmcia driver. Configured it to connect at 9600, turned off error correction, software compression, unchecked all the other protocals except tcp/ip, yada, yada, yada.....the same stuff we used to have to do to clean up a warpy connect. I've done it before to clean up warpy connects at times, but I've never had to do it just to get connected. I was usin a usrx 56k external modem that wouldn't connect slower than 28,8 and apparently that was just too fast.
Thanx for all the help (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) After givin' hitech such a hard time, I guess I gotta sign up....at least for a little while (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I'm curious, if I cant connect at over 9600, how are the guys with cable modem's connecting? Different protocal?

Now get up and fly. Was going to ask about the modem but thought you covered that already.

That's really weird, CRASH. I'm on a 33.3modem, and soon to switch to a DSL connect. Other are on DSL and no mishaps.

It still sounds to me like you were loosing characters do to an interrupt conflict.
Infact even at 9600 you still might be droping charcters on occasion but it shows up less often.

Hmm, no conflicts showing in device manager. Machine is configured rather simply, not many add ons to take up irq's. How would I know if I was having interrupt conflicts?
