Well, I dropped 3000$ on my new system today.
Fx53, 1 gig cas2 ram, x800pro, 10000 RPM Raid 0 drives.
Fire up AH2, it auto detects the card and sets it to 1024 texture.
Running at 1280 32 bit, everything set to performance with the system AND the card overclocked, I get 35 fps in the weeds with all the detail cranked up. I know, I know, your eye suposedly sees only 25fps, but I think that is crap, I can tell 35 from 65 and 65 from 100 by how the video looks like it lags. I want my AH1 100 fps constant back!!
WTH does it take to run this game?!?:lol
I see 100 (refresh max) at high altitude over the ocean, but I did that with my xp2100 w/ati ti4200.
I'm quite let down at the lack of improvement, everybody told me I would be seeing no less than 100fps under any circumstances in the game.
What gives!
-
Turn the detail sliders down. AH doesn't look much better with the sliders on max so all you do is slow down your game.
There might be several reasons for the slowness of your system, such as incorrect driver installation etc.
-
I think my driver installations are just fine, I scored 11550 in 3dmark2003....
I hate that when you have the detail cranked down in AH2, you don't see the vehicles on the ground until the last second.....
-
He should be able to have settings to max. And still get over 70fps. Somthing is up do you have all newest drivers?? O and try not overclosking your card. Maybe thats waht is wrong?just a guess
-
:Well, I dropped 3000$ on my new system today.:
wow should have the best system out there.... my middle of the road pos runs it just fine maxed.
Has got to be a driver / setup issue.
-
Is it a DELL?
-
Of course not, homebuilt system.
FX53, A8V board, x800 vid, 1 gig cas2 ram....
-
I have a p4 2.8 ghz on a 875p MB 1gb cas2 mem 7200rpm hdd and a radion 9800 AIW pro. If I turn off temporal anti-alansing and I get 75-400+ fps 1280x1024 32bit color with 4x FSAA and 8XAF. If you turn temporal AA on you get your max fps capped in ah. I get capped at 75.
-
I dunno guys, everyone is saying "I get 75 fps on the deck with the sliders all left"....it's kind of hard to believe, I've tried every via/vid card (cat and omega) and monitor driver, reformatted twice...I get as low as 22 on the deck when lots of trees are visible, still with the sliders all left and everything cranked at 1280x32bit. All my drivers and windows updates like dx9c etc are all installed and working fine, I'm totally at a loss for what to do other than take this box back and just not play, as 25 fps for me gives me a headache. Sure, I've seen 100 up high in the air, but I'm usually not up there.
WTH is going on, either something is screwed with this new system (I am having a hard time believing that as I still can crack 11,000 in 3dmark2003 consistently, yet get crap performance in AH2) or people aren't seeing what they are seeing.
I'm VERY disappointed, this is pretty ****ty having spent so much money for really NO improvement.
-
I wonder if there isn't an issue with the x800 Radeon cards themselves in AH2... I think you are the first person I've heard of who has tested one in AH2.
Try running some other benchmarks (3dmark 2001 se, etc) as well to try to narrow down whether the system is performing worse than other similar systems.
Also, what sound card do you have? Granted a software based AC97 onboard sound chip isn't going to lose you 30 fps, but they do consume a lot more system resources than a good standalone soundcard.
On my system if I put all 3 bars to the left at 1280x1024 w 4xfsaa enabled I only get around 30 - 40 fps on the deck. If I move the top two sliders just 1/8 way to the right, it goes to 60+ down low, and I can't see any real difference in graphic detail.

hey, having talked about this on ch200 today gman, im really stunned at the issues you have.
the only thing i can think of is that AHII doesnt like ATI cards? Pyro? Hitech?
to make my AHII playable i had to reduce textures to 256, AHII autos at 512 but its just horrible at that...
maybe you should try backing down from 1024 to 512? or have i missed that you've done that already?
anyway:
A64 3200
Asus K8V
ATI 9700pro 128mb
1gig PC2700. or 512mb PC3200.... 1 gig is faster so...
Samsung 191t TFT @ 70hz 1280x1024.
drivers and settings:
WinXP SP1 + all the updates.
CAT 4.8
Dx9c
1280x1024 desktop AND ingame
FSAAx2 (used to be 4 in AHI)
AFx8 (used to be 16 in AHI)
Vsync ON
everything in ati drivers @ max quality
Game:
Texture size 256
detail sliders about 1cm from max quality
fps limit OFF
40fps low down, 70fps high (ie if i cant see the ground)
Sometimes, on certain parts of the maps i need to reduce vis range because my fps hits 10 for some strange reason....kinda sucks
3dmark2001 = 20431 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7567913)
3dmark2004 = 5898 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=1984388)
good luck, and tell us if you fix it...as i want a x800xt soon, and im might need to fix it too....lol

whats the adress to this benchmark thing..dammit my fp suk egg

First off I wouldn't overclock that card. It doesn't matter if you can or not. There truly is no need to do it with the horsepower that it has right out of the box.
-
Gman, did you ever sort out your fps with the new system. I am having a new system built and putting an X800 in it, would hate not to get GREAT improvement over my old system. I don't think the problem is the card as I saw a thread on the x800 and xtremej said he had one and it was incredible.
"I own the X800XT. Was getting 700+FR in AH one time, even tho I was not see'ing it due to monitor. It is one incredable card and I'd recommend it to anyone."

my system is 2600XP and 9800pro 512 pc2100 mem (and on board sound) - in other words - way less than your system, and I get 30 to 40fps consistently.
Did you do a fresh install of windows? - If not I would suggest you do. You are using xp right?
You system should be getting much more fps
Acetnt
I am using default textures 512, system mem
I am also using 2x ati filters (anis / alias)
-
Nope, only fixed it by lowering sliders to about 1.5 inches from the left (say about 70% of max). This gives me 100 in the air away from the clutter and trees (refresh rate max), and anywhere from 30 in smoke and lots of cons trees to 65 on the deck.
Again, I tried absolutely everything, so many reformatts, so many different types of drivers..all pretty much did the same thing. I do get 11500 3dmards 3dmark2003, which is about what the system should do, but I still get sucky sucky long time performance (imo) in AH2. My 2100xp w/ti4200 wasn't much slower.
-
What services / programs are running on that machine ???
Make a list and post it.
Also is vsync on or off ?
-
I still think this is an AH2 / x800 / 9800 issue.
Maybe even an AH2 / ATI issue, seems like nVidia cards definately have the edge in here.
I assume you've been into the BIOS and set -
HT bus to 1600
Mem 2T command rate - disabled
Fastwrites OFF
etc
-
Hmmmm ive seen a pont like this on newegg he sent his bak but some was tweeked with as if it where droped and the clock really got messed up he was get really b ad farms as well never know maybe so post office guy droped it?? i have a 5200 apg 128mb Just the Gefoece kind not but diffrent people i get 75 with 1024x768 with it all to the left the sliders i still get 75 :) but i get sucky graphs :(( wow that card should get really Nice frames with that card cost like 400+ Right:confused:   i dont get it

ge force run best at 800x600.
if your using a amd chip in a via chipset board and a geforce card, Welll.... Im sorry but they dont go well to gether at all.
the geforece and the amd will work ok with eachother but 1st thing you ebter via chip set in to the equasion u get problems.
The via chip set ont work well at all with these new age gfx cards and the geforce serize are the worst,
Try downloadiong the via 4 in 1 drivers,
and install direct x 9 from windows updates.
Also have a look for newer video card drivers from the manufacturers web site
-
Via chipset may had had issues in earlier versions, but the new chipset on the Athlon 64 boards have no such issues.
If he is getting good scores in 3dmark, good frame rates in other games, and crappy frame rates here - it points to an AH2 prob. Either an complete ATI issue or individual ATI video card model problem.
-
Kev, why set HT @ 1600? Maybe for troubleshootin purposes?
Have the same setup pretty much except using ABit AV8pro board.
Run HT @ 2400, mem @ 2,2,3,5
CPU @ 2857 w/excellent results.
Just curious

I'm using an ATI 9700 Pro 128 card.
In AH1 I set my monitor to 1024x768@100mhz and got 100 fps in the game. When AH2 came out my FPS max was 99 with min about 25. So I bought 512M additional RAM and a new monitor that has allowed me to set my desktop to 1024x768@120Hz. In AH2 I'm now at 119 FPS max and about 45 min. Since I got my new monitor my lowest FPS is while processing low atltitude environments, fire, smoke, and cloud banks. Now that I have 1Gig of RAM, AH is using just over 600Mbyte for the game. That ment when I had only 512Mbyte of RAM my PC was slowed down page fileing.
Is anyone having a constant FPS in AH2, or do we all now get our max FPS looking at the sky, and are reduced to our minimum FPS during game play while our systems are processing the environmental graphics?
It would be nice to know if the new AH video model does not favor ATI chip sets. So far to play AH2 I have spent over $3500 on a new PC, 512M additional RAM, and a new Monitor to get 120Hz refresh rate. And this is just so I can get a minimum FPS to play near the ground.

I was having some probs with my new vid card too... nvidia 6800 GT. Even the nvidia demos ran like crap, although framerates in doom3 and other benchmarks seemed to be ok. So I went digging, and made a few changes.
I downloaded the latest via hyperion drivers even though I'm running an older via kt266a mobo that hadn't had any problems in the past. No hard drive corruption or any other probs that used to plague via chipset boards, but I figured it probably wouldn't hurt. I also changed around a few bios settings.
I'd noticed that the doom3 benchmarks and nvidia demos would pause a bit whenever the hard drive light flicked on, so I also increased AGP aperture to 128. I also increased my FSB from 133 to 135 to push up my pci bus a bit since it looked like that might be holding me back too.
My 3dmark2001 benchmark increased by 200 pts since it's pretty much cpu bound anyhow, but my 3dmark2003 score increased by almost 1000 pts. The nvidia demos smoothed out a bit, and AH2 framerates seem more consistant and a bit higher.
Anyhow, that's what I did and saw.

My bad blackfalcon, not sure what I was thinking about.
2000 or 2400 for HT depending on model.
A8V (mine) goes to 1000 (2000 effective).
-
yea..id set everything to normal and get the fps up before i start oc'ing my sht. My system gets an even 70fps, which is where my monitor refresh is set to. So Unless you got some pc2100 or something, you got some problem somwhere.
-
ok..well im now running in the 50-60s now ..before i was in 20s teens and single fps all the time...
I had about 30 process's started when my comp turned on..
I thougth i turend them all of in the start/control panle/startup menu thingy...nowp wrong place to turn them off I found out..
im down to about 14 things being started now..HUGE DIFFerence
MAke sure to check that out

:lol :lol :lol :lol I have aboyut 52 of them runin and i have a geforce fx 5200 128mb apg 8x and i still get 75Fps with the sliders to da left but i get sucky graphs
-
fps are highers when your looking at the sky as there are les details to render...
More things = less fps...
lowering detail setings and changing to 800x600 will proly work just fine.
if not try making the game load textures in your system memory and Also you may want to defrag your hard disk and create e new page file (virual memorey) .swp.
i usualy have like 3gb virtual ram available . nut iv never seen pxc use more than 500mb.
Thera are a lot of little setings that can help Including v-sink disssabeld
But having said that I wouldnt dissable v-sink my self
Also uyou realy dont need to format and reinstall windows.. Its realy rare when u bneed to do this,
prefeorm a thourour diskchk.
then defrag you disks.. This should prove better than format and reinstall. But will take longer.
You should scandisk and defrag monthly

and as for starting programs....
find and download jv16 power toool
run it click on registry setings
click on starting programs
tick all the boxes of the programs that shouldnt start on start up.
Click remove
Now dont use jv16 again unless you know what ya doing in the registry and know whats safe to remove.
if you dont know what the program is....
use google to search for the file name....
Find out if its safe to remove like that b4 you remove it.
DONT FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU DONT OWN THE COMPUTER. DONT EDIT REGISTRY UNLESS OU HAVE SOME IDEA WHAT YOUR DOING.
DONT COME CRYING TO ME IF U DELETED WRONG THINGS AND PC NO LONGER WORKS PROPERLY.
I have given u all tha inf i give any 1 ls who asks.
Hope it helps

Upgraded my system,
P4 2GHz, Audigy2, 256MB of 2700DDR, Gigabyte PE667 Ultra, R8500 AIW, all latest drivers, DX9c.
to a Saphire X800Pro, and the fps at 1024x768 is the same except for some higher peaks and a higher avg fps of 2-5 (not sure on this number, but it was barely noticeable visually) or so. It will run faster with the sliders on the performance side, although only the top and bottom sliders can be put to the max with little loss of fps.
No AF but AA is set to 6x and temporal, as it doesn't have much effect on the framerate.
Sound acceleration is one notch under maximum in the windows/dxdiag options, there are no unnecessary processes running, no bluetooth, no motherboard utilities, no explorer, nada.
Doing about 27fps in the tower with the middle slider 1/3 from the right, the other two maxed. Getting about 35fps in the air with medium amount of things in the sky, low 20s with heavy field porkage, and from 40 to 75 (screen refresh) when above ground detail objects range and clear skies.
side note, with this upgrade, in Doom3 I went from 35fps avg with everything to the minimum (incl. 640x resolution) except bump mapping and realtime shadows, to 35-65fps avg in Ultra at 1024x.

Seems alot of ppl dont know this, but if you click run and type msconfig in the box, hit enter, you get microsofts config thingie. From there u can chose which apps to start at the boot.
By the way, i got an ATI card and i get decent performance. AMD 2500, 1.5gb 2700ddr, ATI 9800Pro, i get anywhere from 40-85 (85 being my refresh rate, anyone going past 85hz wont really see any difference at all) at 1280x1024. I have to mention that i dont have settings set to max. The eyecandy/performance tradeoff is not worth it by a longshot. some more trees and your framerate chopped in half.
what i can figure is that the X800 prolly has some probs with the game, or vice versa. New cards are a hassle, i rarely touch them.I bought the GF1 DDR the day it came out. Phew! never been more pssed off. half the games worked fine, the other half had tons of problems or bad performance.
hope u sort it out, for the time being, cut the details and wait for fixes :)
