Title: What is it like?
Post by: daddy on March 16, 2000, 02:32:00 PM
I've yet to play AH. I have heard a rumor that the p51 is available all the time here. True? Hard to imagaine. Dare to dream! Is that so? Is it available like the days of WB past? You mean, if someone wants to fly a particular ac, they can...that simple?

WHat is the p51 like? What color is her nose?
Please tell me what she is like.

Once you get to altitude and speed she flys like a silken angel laced with anger and determination.

Blue nose, silver overall.

Difficult to master but lethal at convergence.

I like daddy, have never even seen AH and I was wondering about the 109s. Being a mac man I won't be able to look myself but wanted to know what I'm missing. Am I missing out?

What version of 109?
Gun package?
Loadout?
Performance?
Do many people fly them?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Heya sigimund four versions

109f4 JG2 camo
1x20mm + 2x7.9mm
gunpods(2x20mm) optional
109G2 Finnish Airforce camo
1x20mm + 2x7.9mm or 1x30mm + 2x7.9mm
gunpods(2x20mm) optional
109G6
1x20mm + 2x13mm or 1x30mm + 2x13mm
gunpods (2x20mm) optional
109G10
1x20mm + 2x13mm or 1x30mm + 2x13mm
gunpods (2x20mm)

On all 109's droptank or 250kg or 500kg bomb optional.

I only fly the G2 and G10. G2 splendid mix of turn and climb (don't exagerate the turn tho).
G10 one of the most dangerous birds in the game. Evil acceleration, Evil topspeed (can catch the pony if it's not realy weary, 2nd fastest plane), rocket climbrate (5000 feet a min with drops, going to 3500 at 20K), can you say MW50   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

109's are flown quite alot here, specialy in knight country, my squad 32 strong flies it very much but there are alot of dedicated drivers outside too.

Daddy, go to webside and look for gamehelp, current aircraft, you'll see a nice description of the pony in there + some pics.

Daddy, the Pony is bird of pure beauty in AH, and if properly flown it is untouchable. And yah and you can fly it all you want  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I never was much of a Mustang Driver in Warbirds, but its pretty much all I fly here.

I agree with Sharky, jump in and try it. At first every plane will feel like it burns E much faster, especially in manuevers. But this is a good thing for the Pony, and other E fighers, since it empahsizes E management.

Oh, and I can guarantee that you won't see any Spitfires or F6F's do a 180 degree break turn and then climb up your backside too shoot you down.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I'm still relearning since I've have relativley little time in AH. One thing that I have noticed is the relative parity amongst the a/c (which I like) IE, you don't really need the best a/c to be successfull...cliche I know, but check the plane vs. plane stats in the scoring section (I love that btw - I'm a stat freak hehehe).

Whether this observation is due to the youth of the game and us not figuring out the nuances yet, or because of other factors...I dunno, but I like that aspect.

What does have me up in arms is the lethality...when I am on-line it seems the guns are really really strong, but when I check the stats, it seems normal. Perhaps 6 months of blanks in my WB MG151's has my brain all screwed up  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

The P51D and the 109's are arch adversarys in AH; both have many proponents and skilled pilots.

The debate on which is best will rage on for quite some time yet. For my part; I'm a pony driver; and I'll take my chances in one against anything in the sim. Flown correctly, as noted by Verm; it's the plane of legend. I consider the AH P51D the best one ever rendered in any sim; from any perspective.

Part of what makes this so is the detailed and (IMHO) correct modeling or the P51's adversrys; the superb 109's and the deadly FW. And, I also consider them also to be the best modeled anywhere. If flying for the LW is your bag; look no further than AH; for here; the LW planes get a fair shake.

Should you think you'd like to give it a try; the AH download and first 2 weeks of in the arena flight are free. Bring fresh underwear; the fights are fierce.

Good Hunting!

Hia daddy!
Just come and try it - its new with several rough edges, MA can be the same bs (allthough 3 sides) as you know from WB.But it allready has many good features: view system, extra loadouts, you-move-and-you-bleed-E.FM can allways be debated (I wont\cant), but whats important is that your ACM works here too.
And of course it has momentum.Things happens.

greetings!

Daddy, why don't you catch a ferry over to Mulkiteo, and I can pick you up and you can try it out at my place.  You can relax in my customized Gameseat, look into a 3d-like 26" fresnel lens, listen to 4-point surround sound and learn to fly the Pony all over again.  She's still a beaut and the community is like WB's 1.11 era.  Friendly, helpful, and above all competitive.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Oh, I still fly WB's, but AH has a special touch that is unmatched at this time.

Right now AH is benifitting from a limitted number of planes.  Back in the Ol' days of WB, the p51 was always available too.

I'm not sure how the new setup works, but Warbirds could only have so many different aircraft in the arena due to memory issues.

It would be nice if HTC could fill us in on their plans for increasing the number of planes available and what will happen when that number grows too large.

I'm hoping for early/late war arenas myself.

Hi Ya Daddy!

Come on and give it a free 2 week test drive.
This game will make a better flyer out of a guy, with your skills you should be a top killer in no time.  Of course, its easy with all the AW dweebs to kill.   :O

I enjoy it, and after getting used to AH, I dont really have any desire to fly brand wb anymore.  Would be great to see you fly with us.

Like was said further up this thread, if you come over here to test the waters you may become hooked.

I have to disagree with you AKdejavu.  The was a time in WB's where we had a choice of over 40 different planes and they could all be used at all times.  problem was that the early wafr stuff never got touched, it was just too outclassed by late war stuff.

Also, the early war/late war seperate arenas has been tried.  The early war arena was nearly always empty...maye a dozen pilots, while the late war arena had 100+.  It's a great idea in principle, but human nature takes over and we all end up wanting the Tim the Toolman Taylor machines.  Souped up and heavily armed.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Actually Hobo, I distinctly remember the announcement that "With the current limitations... this is the last aircraft... blah blah blah".  The rolling planesets started shortly thereafter.

Once again, those limitations may not exist today, I welcome HTC to come in and clarify the situation.

Hi Daddy= nice to see over here

i would consider taking Hobo offer, grab a few beers and spend a day over at his place and fly Aces High

The P51D "Blue Nosed Bastard" is avaiable like all the others in Aces High ,all the time 24/7 a week....we have even got the Macchi 202 and the Typhoon coming in the next update plus two vehicles....which means a start to ground war also.

if your going to try out Aces High then i suggest you give your self 1 to 2 weeks transition to learning a new Flight model....you do lose alot of E in this Sim but fly the P51D like you normally would in Warbirds then im sure you got very little to worry about...hehe maybe flying alittle higher but that easily getting adjusted to

you will find the gunnery much more lethal over here and from ive seen in guncam footage and the amount of rounds fired its pretty close....so go easy on the .50s    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

your love the hanger......so much configuration to choose from you spend a while thinking what to take up hehe.....you gotta love the drop tanks    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

if you installed AH on your system then i recommend the Hi-res artwork sure make alot of difference in its eye-candy and spend some time setting up your keys

it is a three sided war here and we got many new changes coming along including a new terrain to take in account the ground war

doesnt matter who you fly for, people from all sides are very friendly and will make sure you get settled in that Daddy's Girl in no time    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

i think you will enjoy it.....specially that Daddy's Girl would be avaiable when you need her and not waiting nearly 2 weeks to fly her in another brand.......so go on give it a go what have you got to lose?

 http://www.hitechcreations.com/p51d.html (http://www.hitechcreations.com/p51d.html)

heres a link to give you some info on the P51D on Aces high and at the bottom is some charts and figures that you might find interesting

p.s i believe its your round this time    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

make it a bourbon hehe

Cya Steve hope to see you in the skies of Aces High very soon

Daddy,
Go ahead and get the AH download and spend a little time with the pony offline.
get a little altitude, set the trim and do a highspeed buzz over the airfield. put her in a 70 degree zoom and wingover just as you hit 100 IAS. make your second pass a bit higher and slower and do a snap roll over the field.
D/L the software and fly offline. no credit card, no commitment, just a little modem time to download. the planes just feel like they are flying here. very responsive. i suspect that you will love it.

Daddy,
I'm a La-5FN driver, but I flew the P-51D recently on one sortie.  It is fast, handles quite well at speed, and has what appears to be the best energy retaining ability in AH.  Oh, and there is nothing faster.  With the view system, SA is excellent.

However, you will have a formidible adversary in the Bf 109G-10.

AkDejavu, you may be very well right there.  I too remember some message to the effect of some limitiations, but I ever associated it with only being able to have X many different planes at one time.  But if that was the case (and it probably was) how is it that we can fly early planes on the last day of a TOD?  Help me out here because I'm probably forgetting something...old age ya know?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Leonid, flew you baby for a while last night...still a riot to play in.
I would say that HTC has done justice both graphicaly and FM wise to all of the aircraft in AH. Hence you will usually see a whide variety of types flown. (exept when JG2 and there Dweebwulfs are arround.... Thank you all very much for the info. I admit that curiousity is getting the best of me. I don't really have much time to fly in yet another sim, but I must admit the AH p51 is tempting. Perhaps I shall give my old friend hobo a call.

I know that sometimes I sound like a jerk with my p51 whining. But when it comes down to it, I doubt I would spend much time in any sim if the p51 wasn't around. Kinda obsessive I suppose (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Thanks again for the info guys. And btw, awesome pony picture above (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Gawd she is a nice looking plane.

You know Hobo, it may have been reffering to the limit on aircraft they could have and still allow a 2 meg video card be minimum requirement.  It may have preceded the bumping of that minimum to 4 meg... but I just don't remember it too well either.

I know it had something to do with available memory.  I just can't remember wether it was system or video.

Daddy, as you can see it's got the pretty blue nose.  It flies like it oughta.  The climb and speed curves are posted on the HTC web page (under "In The Game") and they are closer to real life USAAF data than any other sim I've seen.  Also it's got drop tanks, and you can choose 4 or 6 gun loadouts.

Sigi, Jeng summed up the 109 guns nicely.  Don't forget you can carry a drop tank or centerline bomb and wing rockets also.  It's probably the best Me 109 sim I've seen.  The plane has it's strengths (acceleration, climb, low speed handling, easy stall) and weaknesses (high speed control response) as it oughta.  And again you can check out the climb and speed curves - the variants all have the full performance that they should.

Of course I'm a huge Spit Dweeb over here.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
