Yes, it is, good recommendation!
Two of my favorite Lightning books that are a good complement to it are the two "Aircraft of the Aces" ones by Stanaway. Good stories of the P-38's use in combat.
Osprey Aircraft of the Aces #14
P-38 Lightning Aces of the Pacific and CBI
by John Stanaway
ISBN 1855326337
Osprey Aircraft of the Aces #19
P-38 Lightning Aces of the ETO/MTO
by John Stanaway
ISBN 1855326981
P.S. Forgot to mention the excellent color sections to go with the photographs! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

While I'm sure many here have a more comprehensive aviation library than I, FWIW out of the several P-38 videos I have my favorite is the "Roaring Glory Vol. 6, Lockheed P-38 Lightning" DVD.
The "Flying the P-38" section with the late Jeff Ethell (who was killed while flying a P-38 in 1997) is excellent, especially when he recounts stories his father told him about his experiences flying the P-38 in combat. The actual Lockheed training film is also great.

Thanks, but let's not ferget Martin Caidin's The "Forked-Tailed Devil" Bantam WAR series. Has excellent analysis of the 38 in ALL theatres, with great documentation and first hand reports.
