Title: Suggested refinement -- adjust for low total arena numbers
Post by: Simaril on August 14, 2004, 11:23:23 AM
First, lets admit the obvious -- HT has decided to try this system, and whining about it is a waste of breath until the results are in. So, people, suck it up -- discuss issues intelligently -- and lets see what happens.

Now, HT, a thought. There is a significant difference between a 50% advantage with 400 total in the arena, and a 50% advantage with 90 in the arena. However, as I see it now it appears that the plane ENY block kicks in the same way.

38/26/26 means that the high team has 12 more players in the air, spread over two entire fronts. This is not the stuff of gang bangs, and its gameplay impact will be minimal compared to say Sunday nights.

I suggest that a second logical code string be written so that (for example) when the disparity is less than a certain absolute number, the ENY cutoff is reduced by half.

I agree that an advantage assigned to percentage isn't a good measurement.

OTOH in this example... 38/26/26 means if the three country model worked correctly... (read flyers looked at the numbers and organized efforts...  19 of each of the smaller countries would fight the 38 of the larger and the remaining 7 each of the smaller countries could do whatever they wanted... to include ganging the larger or fighting between themselves.

A number like  38/26/26 is not a numbers disadvantage....

A number like 100/40/40 is...   when the combined strength of the two smaller countries cannot equal or exceed the larger... we have an issue....

Until then we can as easily educate and encourage the smaller countries on how to allocate their flying strength to negate the larger country.  It doesn't need a code change it needs a mind change.

Not a bad addition.

BTW friday night around 10 pacific I'll be dammed if the numbers were even up.
