I am trying an external modem to see if that helps. Used to say 26k was the best I could get with my internal Diamond 56k modem. At least that is what the little computers icon would say in the bottom tray when I would connect.
Now with the external modem it says 115.2

LOL I wish. What is another way to tell how fast your connect is? Things "seem" faster, but I want to know for sure.
Thanks in advance.

It's been a while since I've used dial-up, but I do remember one time when I connected at around 115kbps. And, I actually DID connect at that speed (much faster than the usual 42kbps). I wasn't ever able to duplicate the occurence, unfortunately.

its not shwoing your actual connect speed, 115k is what your serial port is set at.
Theres a modem setting you can set to get your actual connect speed, and there might be a setting for the same thign in widnows somewhere.
Its been years since I've used a dialup connection, dont remember what you need to do.

well...no seriously...that one time, i WAS connected much faster than the usual dial-up. my connection ran at a speed that resembled IDSL. i wish the governing agencies would let us turn up our "56k-restricted" modems.
