did you guys leave the dreamteam at home this time, or are puerto rico just plain great?
-edit- i mean USA, not Canada :)

In response, the US Navy bombed the hell out of Puerto Rico. Vieques, to be specific. :D

Good now I'll have an excuse to fly to St Thomas :D
-
man they really got spanked though. pretty surprising.
-
I'm still upset Iraq beat Portugal in soccer. If the age invitations were'nt set to under 23, they could have invited the whole Portugal National team. Then it'd be over. :p The only really good player they has was Christiano Rivaldo.
-
Just goes to show ya what a team can do if it doesnt have to worry about torture and death.

I think only the ego and the bling showed up, the team is still back in the states.
-
Perty pathetic when the "Dream Team" loses to a non-medal contending team and the USA Baseball team couldn't even qualify to play in the Olympics. :aok

LOL the "Bling?" What kind of thinly vieled piece of racist innuendo is THAT???
Sometimes you just plain lose, Bubba- no matter how hard you try. Give Iverson, Duncan et. al. a break- basketball is an international game now, and there's lots of talent out there.
-
so whiteys cant have any bling?
-
LMAO Hilarious
...-Gixer

meanwhileone of Norways teams just beat one of the teams from Puerto Rico.....im beachvolley :D
to bad it was men, so the entertainment value was not what it could have been.
-
They should have sent the Pistons instead of that group of whiney primadonnas.
-
The US team is made up of Rooks?

Strange that the winners of the NBA championship are still called World Champions though isn't it?

Canada vs USA is on now. Canada leads the first set slightly. (men)
-update- Canada won first set and is now leading te second with a good margin.
-
When the original picks said they wouldn't play, a decision had to be made. Picks the biggest names left or go with the best shooting team. Guess which one they did.
This is what happens when "marketing" wins out over sound coaching decisions.

No they aren't- they're called the NBA Champions.
The reigning world champs are the Yugoslavians- Vlade Divac, Peja Stykovic (sp) and a bunch of other NBA caliber players.
-
Yep, whoever put together the USA team was an idiot. Post players and guys who can drive to the basket one-on-one, but no shooters. It’s like having a football team with great running backs but no receivers, it makes you one dimensional. PR packed in a zone defense and USA didn’t have anyone who could make an outside shot to open up the middle. That’s the main difference between the international game and the NBA, which doesn’t allow zone defense.

(buzzer sound) Wrong, myelo- zone defenses are now allowed in the NBA as of a couple of years ago.

Better tell your sports casters that, because they constantly refer to the NBA Champion as World Champion.
I suppose my official Beanie Bear 2001 World Champion collectible is actually wrong?
I bought it here:

You buy Beanie Bears and wear pink shorts??
:rofl
...And yes, your reference to the Lakers as being world champs is wrong- your Beanie Bear is a liar.
-
lol...
My beanie is an "officially snactioned product of the NBA". I guess it is just a gay game.
I would like to lodge an official complaint. I thought I had a World Championship beanie bear. Apparently there must be some worn out bullet ridden Yugoslavian version out there somewhere.

Not surprising at all. Last year, there was a story on HBO's Inside Sports about the decline of U.S. basketball and the ascendency of the Europeans. It boiled down to lack of fundamentals and an overwhelming desire to make it on an ESPN highlight reel by U.S. basketball players.
-
There was no money involved and they had to pass a drug test.

Cripes, sounds almost like North American hockey.
-
It kinda makes me sick to see our best players not wanting to go to the Olympics because they weren't offered enough money.

More the latter than the former IMHO.

All the more reason to support our team- more talented players passed on the Olympics because they'd be subject to random drug testing under Olympic rules, and marijuana is a banned substance.
Ask Ray Allen, Tracy McGrady, Mike Bibby, Chris Webber and the dozens of other NBA no-shows why they avoided the Olympics- no money, no care and no weed.
At least Kobe has an excuse- he's on trial for rape. :aok

Thanks, I didn't know that. But then I haven't watched the NBA in about 4 years.

I lost all interest in the NBA after the Spreewell incident. Some college teams could beat some of these so called pro teams. NBA pro players just disgust me now.

The Spreewell incident was one of many that turned me off to the NBA over time...I'm still reliving the days of hard play, the LA Lakers and Boston celtics series in the early 80's, blue collar bastketball, good rivalries, now it appears to be "ME ME ME" basketball, Shaq and Kobe fighting over who gets the ball more, etc.... its taken a spin for the worst.
