After pyro's beta anouncement I'm suprised that there doesnt seem to be any mention of it on the gen board. I guess it's been pushed aside for the far more interesting and ongoing Cit scandal :)
Anyway, how's everyone been running dx8? I haven't upgraded to it yet, due to some rather ugly comments I seem to remember comin' from this community. Any advantages to usin' it?

If you have Windows 2000 or ME ( ME comes with a horrible version called 7.1), yes, go to 8a. If you already have 7a under windows 9x then going to 8 won't gain you much yet.
I'll warn you that going to DX 8 will "break" RW. You will have to set it to WAV recording, instead of direct sound recording.

Used DX8a for the last two to three months. Only problem was in using "direct" in RW (like Bloom said)...changed to wav and end of problem.

I can say without hesitation, that DX8 was the least troublesome of any DX upgrade Ive done :D So far the only glitch Ive encountered is that in order to use my video in, I need to reboot if I've played any 3d games.

Not necessarily...at least, not for me.

I just canīt use RW in Full-Duplex. Besides of that, once into the game, I can't Alt-Tab, as it usually hangs the system. It's all RW related.
Besides that, Dx8.0a here, with no apparent problems.

Been on DX8.0a since it's release and haven't had any problems but this it really a moot point due to the fact that we are not using the Beta exe yet.

I just changed to DX8.0a. I had a little problem with RW as well, but got it sorted with upgrading to newest version and going to Wav-recording.
Sitting on a field that is under shell bombardment in the AH-DX-beta sounds too cool now. Generally I really like the new sound. Gonna be interesting to see what new graphic there will come.
