Just read that UH-1s downed two AN-2s during the Vietnam War. Can anyone tell me more about this?

Why not? He may know!

AN-2 not a fighter..or very fast as far as I know...a door gunner could take one out if he got lucky.

I did some searching...
Could find nothing on google. But I do remember hearing about AH-1 Cobra's, not UH-1 Hueys, downing some Colts near the end of American Invlovment.
I know for certain that A-1 Skyraiders claimed MiG17's in combat at least three times during the war, Its quite possible they shot down a AN2 down in Laos or N.Vietnam on a Rescue Mission.

I believe a Marine UH-1 door gunner got a MIG in VN.

Good Link Dnil.
Crazy Spooks, wonder where they were at when they shot them down.
-
on a sidenote i belive that discovery channel claimed that the AN-2 is the most reliable aircraft ever made. I dunno
-
Apparently it's credited to be robust and reliable due to it's capability to reliably operate under severe weather conditions, like artic.
However Discovery Channel is very keen to mark things "most " when something simply claims was .

Thanks for the link Dnil. Would be interesting to find out how they were shot down.

I see they took lessons from the HiTech school of designing an airbase "thou shalt have large high objects at the end of the runway"
-
FSN doesnt allow direct image linking.
But I can imagine you mean the blob floating at the end of runway 09.
Theres two runways at Malmi, north/south and west/east :)

Damn, that Real Life has some nice graphics, where can i order one? However those runway textures could use a little tweaking.

It worked when I first posted it.
Sorry. The photo is of a small airplane landing. The camera is behind it, but up high, maybe in a tree?

Hmmm.....How did you know that A-1 Skyraiders claimed MiG-17s? Seem that I almost don't believe you :P

I know one A-1 killed a Mig-17 when the mig got slow and tried to out turn the A-1.

Thanks, Dnil and I have no idea that A-1 can shot down MiG-17 because I always thought Skyraider is the slowest Attacker than any F4U-6/AU-1 and others attacker aircrafts.
