A real simple alternative solution....
Limit login to any side to maintain balance...if your team has the numbers you can't log in until things even out...unless you play another side.
No muss no fuss no issues....
I used 1% but it could be 3% or 5% or whatever seems right.

Maybe I didnt read HT's thread enough but it seems the most simple fix was overlooked or just not thought about enough.
We already have the perk mulitplier in place.. Why not just perk the big 4 when one country outnumbers the other 2.. Instead of deny use, just add a small perk cost.. Seems the easiest fix without limiting the plane set..

HiTech said that that solution wouldn't hamper the vets and would be unduly harsh to the newer and less skilled players. It would single them out when he wanted to motivate the entire payer base of the over populous country.
Many of us have thousands and thousands of perk points and the initial price of a La-7, P-51D, N1K2-J or Spitfire Mk IX would have to be past 100 points for us to really care. No new player, or less skilled player who has spent all his time in low ENY aircraft, will be able to afford that.
-
Just throwing out ideas here. I agree with karnak, a perk cost of less than 150 would mean nothing to hundreds of players who have thousands of perks in the bank. Perhaps HTC could apply a special icon to the high numbers side when they flew one of the low ENY planes. Some sort of white asterix or just a different color. This would of course co-incide with major point/perk bonuses for killing them. A lot of people who don't care about perks DO care about their K/D ratio :D

If perking was answer base it on ENV value.
262 ENV 5 = 200 perks = 40 perks per ENV - apply in reverse
ENV 6 = 200-40 = 160
ENV 7 = 200-80 = 120
ENV 8 = 200-120 = 80
ENV 9 = 200-160 = 40
ENV 10 and over free.
Bet the ones wanting to perk the low env stuff instead of limiting wouldn't be so keen anymore.
Considering they are talking around 20 perks, lol if a Tempest and Spit 14 are around 45/60 respectively why would a P51/La7 only be 20.
Apart from this why put a newbie at an ever bigger advantage than they already are at. You could argue that it wouldn't matter what he was a in a seasoned vet could still kill him, but at least let the guy feel like he has a chance. After all we do want them to stay
Frankly I like the new system.

How about NOT !!!!!!!!
I pay my monthly subscription to play when I want to. Not when I'm told when to play. Very bad idea. Makes very bad business sense. I play when I want to because I pay to play when I want to. You and no one else can tell me when I can play other than HT staff.

Thousands???? Dang I have about 10! yeah ten! I really am bad at this stuff. Now I feel really bad at this stuff. Thousands?? Really??:(
Peace

Guys I totally agree perking is not the answer, I don't want it.
Was only showing how if it was based on ENV values you'd still get guys whining about cost (unless it was ridiculously low).
LtPillur - Part of LtDeckers squad? Don't feel bad some guys have been playing this game for years.

Agreed on the problem for new/less skilled players. It's too bad in away though. Just flying the low ENY stuff, you're gimping yourself in the long run IMO (unless you plan to never leave the Main arena).

We could reset perks every month...
That way people have to grind out the perks both vets and noobs.. Also it gives choice to the user to fly in the begining of the month or the end of the month to suit what they want the MA to be all about.. (the early less perk planes but still available, end of the month more perk planes are flying around..)
Hence simulating the developements of tech hitting the battlefront.. (without limiting planeset with exception of your first couple sorties..)
Perking the big four no matter how you look at is a good thing.. It gives value to perks by doing such..
LA7 is a perk plane.. g10 is a perk plane.. Dora is a perk plane.. P51d is a perk plane.. maybe even the Niki (even though its slow as molasses..) hell perk it but at lesser value...
That would bring value to perks.. Also it would bring value to landing your aircraft in one piece..
Suiciders will not like this system.. but this is more true to actual combat then no attrition model..
easy to implement coding wise too.. the system is already there..

You could play anytime...but maybe not on the "side" you want...
As i've said elsewhere I think the current plan is as good as any, I just thought this was an option that would have the same end result thru a different methodology. Simply a load balancing formula based on current numbers...very common in other online gaming.

So I guess the current solution is pretty good if you look at the other possibilities:D

I think Overlag wins with his response. Pretty much sums up his feelings dont'cha think? LOL!!
Humble,
Not trying to get personal with ya and I realize you are just looking for other ways to end this new way we have to play. I'm just stating how I feel. I WILL NOT change countries. I started as a Bish and will end as a Bish unless the squad votes to change.

If perks were reset each tour/camp, perks would have more value. Everyone would start out equal...my thought is it could implement somethig of a volentary rolling planeset (in HTC fashion) the game.

SEgunner...
I haven't been online for months now...nothing personal at all...I understand EXACTLY how you feel. I flew "A" land in AW for 4 years thru RR FR and a bunch of squads...I flew Knight here almost the whole time...even when my old squad (327th Steel Talons) finally made the move over.
I think the idea posted above sucks...but it would achieve the stated goal. Is it heavy handed YUP...the problem is pretty simple lot of moaning but no real ideas that would work...carrots won't work...as far as sticks go the one chosen is as gentle as possible.

Only way to make perks be the answer was if they were charged as a percentage of your perks earned to date.
I.E.
You have 1000perks (fighter)
LA7 costs you 20% of your fighter perks ie 200
You have 10 perks (fighter)
LA7 costs you 20% of your fighter perks ie 2.
This way everyone is penalised equally as you can both take an LA7 up the same number of times. But you also loose the ability to buy normal perk rides if you abuse the availability when you have numbers.
This is to be used in conjunction with the balance equation and ENY the mechanics of which are too much after 4 cans of Stella Artois so far tonight.
Just a thought

IMO, using perks would only promote timidness ... more would be less inclined to fight unless it was absolutely in their favor and once the tables are turned ... run away ... run away ... run away ... worse than they do now.

Yup ... Once you have no perks, then what do you do ? Can't have all planes perked otherwise alot of people would get painted into a corner.
Just for conversation ... if all planes were perked, what you would see is everybody avoiding everybody else unless they had a significant advantage and once the advantage was lost ... zoom ... outta Dodge.
This would then force everybody to fly late war high alt fighters cause they would feel that they would need an alt advantage to even consider engaging ... and before you know, they skies would be filled with Ponys and Jugs flying at 30-35K running away from each other.
Doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun to me.

I have the final solution...make every aircraft cost 5 perks,
and start everyone at 3 perks. There, that should do it..no one
has an advantage..vet or noob ;)
-
Perks are easy to come by if you fly the right plane. Just the other day I landed 6 kills in a 51D and got 1.88 perks for the effort. I re-upped in a D11 and landed 3 kills, got 33.?? for those.
I've only got about 4,250 in the bank now, I've been burning them a lot, having fun T&Bing with the Tempest. I think it suprises some when you don't run with it, of course you've only got a few seconds to kill them before the shock wears off :D

probably be more fun than what slapshot described...
