Post by: hitech on August 17, 2004, 04:03:22 PM

Please do not try to find the edges of the rules, but wrather help us make this a more intresting and fun place to be.

This has always been a creative and flexible group, I'm sure points will still get across just fine. HT just ran the streetsweeper down the gutter for us to improve the neighborhood a bit.

"dont really bother me, just wondering if i had somethign go buggy in IE"

No it's from the vBullentin code, not your browser.

I guess we request it to be "stickied" in that case.

many aren't critical enough to be stickied - they're infrequent but recurring topics. plus who wants a full page of stickys?

theres a few in the training thread the get punted alot ... and in the hardware software forum theres a couple that get punted alot ... (Blooms pc arcitecture thread is a main one that come to mind)  and once and awhile we punt some other info type threads just so we dont have to repeat ourselves every other week .

The RULES are all negative.

How about some positive guidelines.  New readers might get the wrong/right impression.

Perhaps a dedicated "sticky" Forum, then ? with their unique threads all nicely tucked away in exactly the right spot. Punting threads always seemed like a nasty workaround anyway. If it gets lost in any particular forum maybe their own forum would help. We could call it the Skuzzy Sticky Forum of Critical or Infrequent but Recurring Topics.

WTG HTC! It's about time and a breath of fresh air. :D

I think Shane is referring to some of the more useful posts in the "Help and Training Forum". I'd agree we could use a place / seperate forum for those. It's gets old seeing the same questions asked over and over and then having to link to the old threads. IMO.

Pryo and I were having trouble how to describe what is acceptible punting.

I agree on the information type topics. What we dont wish to see is
1. punting up very old topics.
2. punting a post you just made every day because you are not getting a response.

Those are the 2 normal abuses I can think of.

Hitech,

Seriously, I’m not trying to be a wise guy here, but in regards to this rule:

“4- Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users and HTC. Flaming or abusing users is not tolerated.”

Would this include Paul Hinds/Voss?  I’m not talking about starting a new 2K bash Voss thread every two months, just the typical Voss wisecrack.  Is he a “user” or a public figure?

One of the major reasons I see people punting is they feel their messages are not getting to you HT.  I'm don't mean that you are not reading or ignoring them, just that you may not be reading every freaking message on this board... can't blame you there, this is a verbose bunch of dweebs ;)

Would it be possible for a weekly (even bi-weekly) update or something on current issues you are looking into?  It might actually clear up a lot of the speculation about certain situations (ie.  ToD status, thoughs on the ENY disabling, etc.)   Think about how every time Pyro posts pictures of the latest stuff how excited everyone becomes...

Just a $0.02 suggestion. ;)

Not trying to argue here, but certainly you expect BBS posters to poke fun at political figures, celebrities, characters, and public figures (people who make the news big time).

Voss was(/is?) an AH player, but he has certainly acclaimed public figure status.

Along the same line, how do your feel about BBS posters tastefully poking fun at you and Skuzzy?  You take the spelling jabs very well, but certainly you shouldn’t be expected to put up with downright insults either…

Can only speek for myself.

Most people understand the difference between having fun WITH someone , VS inslutling them, or trying to get a rise out of them just to make them mad.

But realy can not think of a single other person simlar to the voss question.

I just wish to say a few things on this topic.

Sometimes what others find funny or "Poking fun" and joking, others do not see it as such. My sense of humor can be very different than others. I am just as much to blame for these new set of rules. I got carried away in speaking my mind about many of the players who are unhappy with the changes taking place in the game.

Really, its their right to speak their mind in a civil manner about how they feel and if they do or do not like these changes. Call it whining or not, everyone has this right. I was overlooking this and wish to appoligize to those whome I have offended, including you, HT.

IMHO this game is what you make of it. If you sit back and just say it sucks because things aren't the same as they used to be or the way you think they should be, than its your fault it sucks as much as it does. On that same token, again we all have the right to speak our minds and voice how we feel about changes. I never thought it was a good thing to bash a game and rip it apart when there are those that do everything they can to make it better. Again, on that same token, bashing the players who rip the game apart or complain just adds insult to injury. So...

Im sorry. :)

Yea,

I can’t think of anyone who has done more to tarnish the work of real flight sim developers like you and I.  We’ve both worked hard to get where we’re at.
Of course I’ve worked a bit harder than you since I earned degrees in; aerodynamics, J7-3000 code programming, physics, super-advanced math and am rated all the way through multi engined military jets.
BTW, I think that you have some minor ROC errors in your code.  Perhaps we should do a side by side test flight in my 109F and Spit IV.  We can go through some maneuvers and I’ll explain it to you.  We can get started as soon as I finish my events and medal ceremonies at the Olympics.

HT,
I cant really say if its apropriate or not.   I can say in made me laugh (alot)    I see Humor as a positive,  So Id love to see plenty of it.   I hope there is a way to clarify having an enjoyable time on the BBS with eliminating it.

Also a Question,   I made changes to my Sig Line,   It is 3 lines but It has spacing between.   Is my Sig withing the spirit of the rules?

We are trying to condense reading more. I.E not have to scroll down as much.

But am consindering chaning it to 5 lines. In which case you would be fine.

when you make a post, you have a box to check at the bottom"show signature" if you want (or not) to show your sig for that particular post.

i pretty much have a pattern i follow when deciding to use my sig.

OK,  I will leave it alone for a day or two  (as an illistration) and will then dump the spacing.

If you decide to go to 5, Im all set.

Thanks for the clarification
