Title: Is it time to leave Iraq,if not when.
Post by: demaw1 on August 17, 2004, 10:40:55 PM
First I would like to say this is no trick or ambush. I will not answer the question or comment on anything, I will not judge anything.  I hope to compile all the info and just report at end. I have three unbiased questions I would like to ask over time.

If you are not a citizen of America please answer as I would like to compile the info and report it also. Please just let me know if you are or not so I can put everything in the right place.

Of course if you all want to comment to each other or not do anything thats fine.  Also I have not included the word maybe , time for not being sure is over. Just yes or no. Also if you have a question I will do my best to answer.

 Thank you very much, demaw.

I'm with Pongo. I don't see an easy way out. We can't leave totally and let chaos rein, and we can't stay there and be sitting ducks alone.

The only viable solution I see is UN peacekeepers until the government is stable and nobody knows how long that may take. The problem is we kinda told the UN to KMA and leave us alone.

1. Until they have an election that is recognized by the rest of the world (UN?) as legitimate.

2. Until the government that is elected in that process has established itself administratively, legislatively and judicially.

3. Lastly, until that government then establishes a military that can deal with internal challenges to its sovereignity.

1 is a relatively short term obligation.

2 is a much longer obligation that probably runs into two years or so.

3 may take 5 years or longer.

Just my .02.

And no..... we best not leave before these things happen. We upset the applecart; we're going to have to stay until we put it right again.

We can never leave Iraq. I wrote a detailed explanation of why not, but HTC's board ate it. And I ain't writing it again.

I'd say after about 5,000 American dead and 35,000 Americans maimed victory will be if not achieved then at least claimed.

We have a greater chance of leaving the 38th parallel than Iraq in the foreseeable future.

I see us leaving when a ligitiamatly (SP) elected govt asks us too.  What can we do after that?

Too many people act like this is such a bad thing because of what they read in the news.  I will say this, if your knowledge on Iraq is just contrived from news/media outlets you are badly misinformed.

On an actual figure.....I see us keeping a base or two there and actually withrawing a standing army in 2 years.  Just my opinion though and its not based on any real intel or estimate.

I think once the Iraqi people (against the US) starting getting regular power and clean running water they will realize who the real enemy is.

Funny, I keep remembering news reports that the Bush
administration has been asking for UN help and has been
denied.  Germany, France and Russian seem to feel that UN
support now would legitimize what they consider an illegal
war.

The fact that the UN ran with their tails between their legs
after the first carbombing seems to indicate they would not be
very helpful in an Iraq that is unsettled.

Nowhere near time to leave yet.

When?  I don't think ever.

Not a US citizen either.

Leaving Iraq too soon would be the stupidest thing to do.

The US will never leave Iraq. It will always have military forces present - when people talk about 'exit strategies' I increasingly think they are viewing the situation in a backwards way.

Iraq was the exit strategy out of Saudi Arabia.

The West is able to have direct influence in the Middle East without a reliance on an increasingly unstable Saudi partnership. The oil will still flow.

Turkey diesel, baby! THAT'S the exit strategy.

Well, either that or hydrogen powered cars using seawater for the base material.

The sooner the better for the entire world. 25 cent tax on every gallon of gas, entire amount collected split between the first three companies to come up with a workable hyrdrogen power solution.
