Anyone use a fresnel lense. If so, what are your impressions.
Any retailers to recommend from satisfied customers?
With a 17 in monitor what's the largest lense I could use with good results?
Thx

wouldn't fly with out it! I have a P-51D cockpit setup with a lens I got from universal3d.com attatched to the insturment panel.
the link below is to my old cockpit page but it has all the info you need.

Thx for the info newt. A few more questions.
I went to the Universal3D site. The telephone numbers have changed and not been updated on the website. Further, the new technical support number was a fax machine. This makes me leery about sending them any money.
Is there something special about their lense that makes it more desirable than any other lense out there? If so I will continue to persue it; I don't mind spending more for quality.
Thx

Got mine at

The visual quality is excellent! And the price was right. I have a 17" monitor and bought the 30" model. Actually too large but better to big than to small. Mounted 9.5" from screen.
I have seen other sights that sell the same brand lenses with a wider selection of sizes.
Do a search under "TV Magnifiers"
20>25" would prolly be good for you.
BTW its not just the magnification. It changes your focus to infinity with an added 3D effect. Was playing Hidden and Dangerous with it, the mission on the Cruiser made me whoosie. Too cool!

What the heck is a frensel lenes? Something you put over your monitor?

I bought one, and tried it for about two minutes before removing it. Too much distortion, loss of sharpness, and loss of brightness.

I use it with my 19" monitor. After installing it, I was a bit disappointed with it, just as Popeye was. I removed it for few days, but then decided to try it again, now for a longer period.
Well, what to say. After getting used to it, I can't fly without it anymore. There is the immersion effect, screens is larger, and you focus your eyes far ahead, not some 30-50 cm in front of you. The screen looks so flat and small without it now.

Chisel and Lugnut: from what I can tell in some cases the two companies are selling an identical product (in fact, one may be the supplier to the other).
Express Enterprises has both ones designed for TV and Monitors. Looks like you guys are using the TV ones, which makes sense. How are they affixed to the monitor? Do they hang well of the top of the frame of the monitor? I am about to buy a new 17" monitor with Trinitron .25 aperture grille, will the two horizontal lines inherent in the system be insanely big?
Secondly, I tend to get motion sickness from playing First Person Shooters, but flight sims and driving sims are okay (perhaps because the cockpit is a fixed point of reference and it has more to do with a lack of peripheral vision more than anything else with the FPS games). If I focus to infinity am I going to barf playing my favourite flight sims? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Mine is the model that has stands that go under the TV/Monitor Kind of clunky so I hung it from a shelf above my monitor.
I have a Sony 17" 200es. When I first got it the lines REALLY bugged me even without the lens. Now I dont even notice them, With or without the lens.
Crap! Now Im noticing those lines again (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Cant say whether it will make you puke or not but it might take a few hours of use to adjust to it. Once you do you'll never go back.
PS; bugs flying between monitor and lens are really freaky!

Hee hee, thanks for the response.
Do you use it all the time, or just for flying? e.g. I do a lot of writing on the computer, will I be looking at characters and sentences floating in 3d space or do you remove it?
Cheers,

Use it all the time
The 3D effect isnt that great but it definatly adds depth. not exactly sure how to describe it.
Go here for a really good description and explanation.

Thanks for all the feed-back.
Chisel, your post was particularly informative. I followed the link you provided and think I understand the darn things for the first time. From that page I also stumbled upon the input devices of FLIFHT LINK Aviation Training Devices. WOW!!!

Once again, WOW!!!! The setup shown is for helecopters but do you think that floor mounted stick would work for AH? I admit, I'm a sucker for gadgets and that is some kind of gadget! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I wonder if Santa could fit that thing on his sleigh?

oK... You have convinced me. I would like to get one, but, does anyone know where can I get it here in Europe?... all links posted make no mention of overseas orders...
