Salute All
The boards have been a fireball since the new patch was started Ive seen valid arguments from both sides ive seen alternate solutions which have been ripped to shreds ! It seems we have players here who are neutral can care either way and we have players who have a strong allegance to side and others rides and some I just think are on pay roll but I think the easiest solution to this problem other than restricting paying customers rides would have been to end the WAR!!!!
Hitech is commander and chief its his game nobody argues this fact so why not bring jonny home the war is over eliminate all three countries Bish,Knights And Rooks disolve everyone back into one melting pot and end there allegence to one side nobodys hurt no bounds over steped no planes limited !! no big rewright of software just rename countries to what ever IE a or b and redestribute everyone and let it work it self out no allenegces everyone is either green or red ...lol squads would find themselves and loners wouldnt care as I read your response to midnight that the countries take on a personality of there own and isnt that really the problem here? this should solve the balancing problem for a few years and stop all the fuss and if it ever gets to this point again in few years we do it again?
thanks for your time salute to all who play the game.

for a game called 'Aces High' why not use card's rather than chess pieces?

Because no one here would want to be Spade!!! (assuming we used suites)
Worse Clubs! I can see the puns now.
Could you imagine if we used the face cards?
Kings, Queens, Jacks ... for get Bishnits, etc...this opens up a whole new era of name calling...wait that could be fun...HT please do this!!!
Seriously though maybe resetting the team names, mixing it up forcing people to pick a new team and then sorting out where their erstwhile team mates went is a good idea.
Good idea. I think its safe to say that current MA behaviour has earned us a RESET of the teams.:aok
-
We could have Dealers, Bouncers and of course Barmaids.

Indeed. Then we could have four sides instead of three - Hearts, Spades, Diamonds, Clubs.
-
Don't know...I think it might be cool to have the Spades, Clubs, Diamonds and Hearts. Makes as much sense as having Bishops, Rooks and Knights. Plus, it would spread the player base over 4 countries instead of three. That might help in balance issues.
Oh well, another idea to be shot down...PULL!
-
We could do green, purple, red, and use color instead of icons...oh...nevermind.
-
If the war is over we only have Rook land now.

or we could do like my son's kindergarten in Japan did and use different flower names....
example: the daisies, the pansies, the lillies.....
No, I guess that wouldn't work too well either....

that might work. dont think anyone could have many compaints about either name?

Why not just call them A,B and C. Name the fields Hitech, Skuzzy, Pyro, ect.

Yip Iron hit it on the nose. Rename the countries and as you log on you are placed on the side of imbalance. Squads will find each other and the loners won't overly care.
There is a country loyalty mentality that needs to be erased to balance things out. The problem is a lot simpler than it is being made out to be here on the boards.
Perhaps the success of RJO can be reworked where an offense and a defense are planned? Three leaders are all you need.
-
Wonder what Hitech thinks about this Idea? I see he hasn't shown up here yet.
I agree with Ironblade...Disband all the cuurent countries and start fresh...let the people pick sides again....I think it will be balanced for awhile...then when it gets bad.....change it up again.
-
Hmm lets see, Im not loyal to any squad, nor any country...........
No down side for me-
-
Just had a strange thought, after every tour, you must change countries.
HiTech
-
well hitech.......you mean everyone must change to the same country from the country they are on? if so that wouldnt work because you would reallt just be changing from "rook to knight" or whatever you were
-
Neg shad, all the rooks must each choose a new country. They could choose either, knight or bish. Some would choose knight, some would choose bish, And a mixing would occure.
Btw not realy seriously thinking about this.

only problem would be individual squads. rooks would "organize" where we were switching next tour probably... probably with the RJO email list at least.
personally i dont want to fly knights / bish because of some of the people there, if they had to switch too.....
aw forget it LOL. i see why you are not seriously thinking of it, i am finding 20 "loopholes" or "problems" as im typing LMAO

C- The Pyro-Maniacs

That was the whole point, that Each country switches. Some one way some other, I.E. every tour each side would have a totaly different mix of players.

Salute All
Hitech switching between countries wont work because you havent eliminated the heart felt allegance to a certain country that all players feel the only way to stop it is to eliminate the countries rename them to what ever and put everyone back in the mix . also seemed a simple fix ? but in your earlier post you said you were not seriously thinking about this or was it your comment on switching after every tour? I havent seem to have seen to much objection here so maybe this would work? it certainly seems easier than trying to reconfigure eny values from most post I have seen unless its not really about the balance and more how the game tactics are played ? Salute All get kills and happy hunting:aok

I'm suprised there is so much support for arbitrary assignment to a county when so many friendshiopos have been made, and lot of people would rather fly with a friend than someone he's come to not care or have respect for .

What a great way to meet new people though! It's exciting to see new faces make a visit to knightland (I'm in a dedicated knight squad). If people were thrown into a grab-bag of a country... who knows what great friends you could make?

In Warbirds I was very loyal to my country and hated many players from the other countries. Then the HA came about. I flew there exclusively and often switched sides. Everyone became my friend and rival; it was much more of a community than the MA. In Aces High I’ve gone through the same pattern; loyal to a country in the MA, switch to the CT when it appears, play both sides, have more fun and enjoy the community more.
I think it would be wise to make the MA crowd mix it up.

I haven't heard enough discussion along this line. I would have no problem with being assigned a country for reach tour as long as squads moved as whole squads.
Would the arena then be frozen so they wouldn't/couldn't change back during the tour?
This wouldn't ensure equal numbers in the arena at any given time... only an equal starting point...
Would be interesting tho.

Why do you want to force us to do something we do not want to do? It seems like this is geared more at breaking up country team play.
Don't forget about us players and the reason why we like to play.

the idea of disolving all three countries is awesome. very intresting.
switching countries every tour (whole squad) is awesome. i think this would add some flavour. changing he number of squad members from 32 to 50 would be kewl too. maybe some set ranks or titles one could hold within a squad like wing commander or training instructor.
i also like the 4 country idea sounds kewl. how would ya handle resets though? maybe once a country destroys another they absorb their numbers to speed the reset or something. :)
-
ditto irons idea.
This plan is not invasive, squads could reform, numbers would immediately be evened out. Whats the problem with implementing this?
-
I don't like it. We just reformed our squad and I would not like to have my newly reformed squad disbanded or seperated. My .02

Really don't see too many negative replies to this idea..yet it won't even get any serious consideration...sad really

So Kak3, do you log off everytime a Damned member shows up in knight land? I mean you do fly on the same side as us don't you? or is someone from the Damned slipping you greenbacks under the table?
Mud makes a joking comment to Soup and you throw in your bad sentiments because you have bad feelings toward a certian squad. nice stab to make at a group while throwing in your comments on this thread. glad to know you have come to not care or have respect for us, we openly now know your feelings and how to deal with them accordingly, does the rest of the MAW feel the same way? or just you because you was not accepted or invited to be Damned, when you was wanting in the squad?
all in all, crap comments like yours is what makes certian squads move from 1 country to another because they can not get along with each other, crap like this is part of the problem of being lopsided numbers. If the mouth types wouldn't insult, badmouth or flame others, then maybe certian squads would have stayed where they were, all be it Bish or Knight and this imbalance may not have took place as it so certianly has? think about it. I recall quiet a few squads moving to Rook because some mouthy crab went and exercised his ill fated free speech and slammed them, so they moved to another country.
As for slamming your own country men or putting them down, bravo Kak3, , outstanding tact on your part, I knew you could do it!
this btw is not directed at any Maw's just to Kak3 directly! the Maws are an outstanding group of flyers

It would be interesting to study the dynamics of this question. Why do some become rooks, knights or bishops. Why do people feel such a strong alliegance to one of an arbituarily named side? As a people, this says alot doesn't it?
I'm not saying this instict is bad.. the community and it's alliegances have facinated me.

I'm not so sure that folks are hung up on the country name per se. It is the people and such in the country that you fly with.

Cz FOREVAH!!
Just kiddin--I stay Knit 'cause of squad affiliation and also-- there becomes a certain comfort level and familiarity with those playing around you--for instance, if Getsome or his son or one of the regular morning guys and I are headed somewhere, I know my back is covered even if we aren't squaddies. I know their competence and their style of play.
I like the country jumpers too--when I see an Urchin or Topgunz or Morph in green it is kinda fun to have 'em on my side for a change.
Besides, if we DID change sides, our 65 man squad would do nothing more than screw up the balance anyway.

I couldn't fly a B17 the other night.......wasn't good for my game.....and my respected enemies were denied a favorite target..not good for their game either.

When I first joined Aces High after AW died, I became Rooks. I became Rooks even though they were the underdogs getting womped badly 24/7. Talk about a harsh learning curve! I became Rooks because that's where the people I enjoyed playing with for the better part of a decade were. Forcing us to play with people who we do not enjoy playing with is a really bad idea. The only reason this is even an issue is because Rooks have become the country ALOT of people tend to enjoy playing with.
Instead of blaming Rooks for being popular, Knights and Bishops need to do some introspection and fathom what it is about your country's character that makes it so unappealing. Unappealing to the point where Rooks like myself would rather fly P40b's with no radar versus your 262s as switch to your country. The solution is there, just look for it.

This is all pretty far above the head of an ignorant, indigent, poor non-rook trash like myself. Seems like a pretty silly attitude to have in a computer game to me, but whatever floats your boat.

Given everyone can change back again within 24 hours (or what ever the setting is) I think just a shuffle would not cut it.
To force a shuffle and yet retain some choice you would have to block everyone from a country for a whole tour and rotate that randomly.
eg if you were blocked from bish last tour (allowing a choice of Nit or rook)you get blocked from eg rook next tour allowing a choice of bish or nit.
I think to make it work you have to go back to the original concept at the start of the thread.
1) at end of tour (or even on a reset) randomly scatter everyone across three countries.
2) then randomly rename those countries from a huge list of names...(animals, stars, planets game pieces whatever).
Squads would quickly re align to one side or another but every tour would be very new in terms of player mix.

Congradulations to the Rooks, Who last night after a 3 week hiatus got your act together.
I said at the start I was of the opinion this whole eny thing wasnt going to change anything other then the type of planes being flown by the horde.
And while its still too early to say "I told ya so"
We're getting damn close.

You fly a MEAN FW A5 Drediock...... great fight last time we bumped into each other.

Zazen said it best. The rooks took steps to improve their numbers and their teamwork. Bish and Knigits could easily do the same.
Country loyalty is part and parcel of the immersive nature of the game IMHO. In AW we were just Az Bz and Cz. Az were always piss yellow, Cz were some kind of puke green, and Bz were fire engine red.

How about FAT UGLY Stupid
everyone here fits into one of these. so should be easy to fill sides/////
-
EDIT: I swear I saw a post dated 2005, saying "This was a good idea, but nobody ever gave it consideration", which is now deleted...
Because it doesn't matter if he never renames a country the same name it had once, ever again. Even if he says "okay bish are now octagons" then those that are so pig-headed and stubborn to change teams to even things out will all just arbitrarily pick the team they all want to be on, as a whole.
So changing the names does squat. Does nothing. You still have the same unbalanced horde mentality, just with different names.
A rose is a rose is a rose, etc.
That idea did nothing to help solve the solution, and only perpetuated the problem "in place" of eny restrictions -- basically you might read it as a "I hate ENY I wanna fly my plane I pay my sub waaaahh!!!" thread.
He's basically saying "remove ENY and just rename the countries every map rotation" -- which does nothing at all, which is to say he's just saying "gimme my plane back!"
-
I kind of like the idea here...
The Pansies have won the war.
The terrain will be reset in 5 mins.
All country-affiliations will be changed in 5 mins.
And BTW, i do not have *any* chess piece loyalty. Just loyalty to my squad and friends, wich happen to fly Knight.

I think this would be very good for community development, most that are completely religious about allegiance would find that flying with those that are "enemies" is not so bad and many new friendships would be created! I flew this game for a over a year before I ventured into enemy territory only to find that the voices and personalities were very similar and friendships developed from my venture. I know it's just a thought, but a very good one indeed! :aok
