"BTW I think all GVs cept the tiger should be exempt from the ENY settings."
Forget who said this, but I would agree. I don't think anything can be exempted though, the eny has to changed.

what effect does a tiger really have???
The thing is a 1ping nightmare. Atleast for me. Even with 10 other tigers around me I'd still be hiding in the bushes waiting for that 1 ping kill from a panzer 6k out to come and kill me.
-
Gotcha!
-
Tell me about it! I can up a Tiger and get shot from a Panzer and get hit one time and kaboom goes my tigger. I can up a Panzer and shoot the living daylights out of a tigger and all I get are deflections, and hits that dont amount to much. I hit the sweet spots on the tiger, turret, drivers window, treads, and engine compartment. Still can't get credit for a one shot kill on a tiger.
Every once in awhile I will get a nice hit sprite and get excited that I will get a kill on a tiger and some yahoo will shot the tiger that I am shooting at and I get an assist? Frustrations!
-
You know what.
If there was a way to only be able to roll panzers & tigers in land that your country started with, I'd agree.
But until you've been down to 3 fields, and faced a swarm of panzers & tigers that you can't even kill because of the swarm of la7's overhead. You can not know the feeling of total frustration.
So if HT can keep the big tanks on their own ground, fine. But as long as they can spawn to MY country's rearmost fields. They need to be disabled.
At least thats my opinion. Flame away.

SEGunner,
So your saying that if you up a tiger, you get 1 shot killed every time.
Yet when you up a panzer you can't ever manage to kill it.
Isn't that a contradiction in terms?
Are you taking into acct every bomb that blew up near you, ever ping that you may not have heard in the heat of battle?
Or even that perhaps the guy shooting you got lucky & landed a round in a hatch or some other weak point?
You can NOT have it both ways.
-
Ghosth, thats the problem. I agree with SEgunner because I suffer the same issues with Tigers. I don't even up Tigers anymore, just a great way to loose perkies. It doesn't make sense, but ....
-
I know finrod, I won't take one up anymore either.
But at least when I lose one I can blame it on a bomb hit.
-
Werent Tigers IRL next to near imposible to destroy?
If that is the case why not modle them as such in the game and raise the cost to use them?
I can still remember several years ago when I first got into a tiger. From doing the little reading on them that I had I was very surprised to find that more often than not they could take very little damage to destroy.
But there is one thing I still find amazing. When I am in a tiger and someone is shooting at me from either long or short distance, it doesnt take much to kill me. When I am shoting at them I am very lucky to take a single track out not to mention a turret or just blow them up like they do me.
Wish I knew what I was doing wrong.

No .. I don't think so .. He said ...
When he is in a Tiger vs Panzer, it only takes a Panzer 1 hit to take out his Tiger.
When he is in a Panzer vs Tiger, he can hit the Tiger repeatlly (note .. not one shot) and can't kill it.
I don't see a contradiction here at all.

You are making up a scenario that fits your side of the discussion. I too have suffered the 1 ping frontal kill by a Panzer. No bombs were dropped, no other enemy around shooting me ... it was 1 v 1.
I have also been on the other side of the coin. I have repeatedly hit a Tiger in multiple kill/disable area of the Tiger and nothing happens.
Someday HT will get around to fine tuning the GV DM ... until then, I only use Tigers for defense and only on my own field runways.

Has got to be connection related, and the hits aren't registering the same for both. (Hmmm wonder if it is related to collisions)
-
I was in a panzer and got a 1 kill shot on a tiger at D800. His shot bounced off and mine killed him, first shot also. Actually made him mad and he quit the game. (think it was blammo)

We've talked about this before:
http://216.91.192.19/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=113341&perpage=50&highlight=tiger%20kill&pagenumber=1
Many of the anomalies present in AH1 have been fixed but more have popped up--the nature of the beast when you release new software I suppose. The link above does address the one shot kill phenomena tho.
GV things I would like to see looked at in AH2:
1) Firing/seeing thru solids (under investigation by htc)
2) Armor model/Damage model for all tanks, a) seems to take damage too easily by .50 cals -- hurris' cannon more deadly than all others, b) being killed by a bomb dropped on the "other" side of the hill you are occupying (referring to the little hills on the valley floors)
3) bomb craters obscuring turret vision when on the side of a hill--the crater appears to be "level" ie, not following the slope of the hill so one cannot target down the hill any longer w/o moving
4) The ability for a GV (only) to resupply at a undamaged VH w/o landing--Sort of like a refuel pad at an AC field.
5) Fixing the "dead stop" issue when rolling down hill--you come to a screeching halt no matter the speed when reaching the bottom of a hill--seems to be related to the "kind" of terrain you're transitioning to more than anything else.
6) Fixing the "reverse" gear: used to be you could put the tank in reverse and switch to pintle gun to see where you are going. Doesn't work now. Soon as you switch views, the tank stops. Forward gears not affected.
7) Make the trees appear earlier: this one may be my crappy comp but when driving thru the woods trees will appear and disappear as you get closer to them (I mean right on top of them)--the fix seems to be to navigate using the shadows between the clumps but even then you often hit a tree and hafta back up.
8) Running "up" a tree will flip you but you do not die. Matter of fact, you can be reflipped with the application of supplies. Was this intended? Seems kinda gamey to me...
9) Invisible tanks: tanks pretty far out (2800 and better) seem to fade from view--you can see the rounds coming in but not the tanks. Slider is set to max (3 miles?)
All I've got for the moment. FWIW I like the GV ground game better now. One can use cover and shoot n' move strategies unavailable in AH1.

Slapshot, with all respect sir I beg to differ.
That is exactly what a contradiction in terms is.
The only other rational possiblitys are.
Either we are not getting the whole story here. He's leaving out other hits, bombs, or other causes of damage. That for one reason or another he may not have even been aware of.
Or he sucks as a tanker (Explains why he can't kill the tiger with X shots)
Or its a contradiction.
Ohh I suppose its possible that he's got the worlds worst luck when it comes to tanking.
Lord knows mine is not that good. Neither are my skills.
The one thing I do know that HT has stressed time, after time, after time.
Is that damage is not comulative on armour. That it makes an incredibly huge difference on how far away you are, exactly what angle you hit at, exactly where you hit at.
Basicly its my opinion, that the GV damage model is too good. So good people think its broken.
That if it was dumbed down a bit it would be a lot more predictable.
Or I could be totally wrong, off base,
uninformed, & ignorant.
I'll let you decide

Tigers can be next to impossable to kill.
Unless Im the one thats in one.
Then a 5 year old with a straw and a spitball seem to be able to take me out with one ping

This is starting to annoy me. First, the tanks are just as susceptible to locational damage as everything else.
In a plane, if you shoot the engine, it will die. Same with the tanks.
You don't aim for a b17 fuselage and get mad when it doesn't go down. You aim for the middle - wing tip with which it is vulnerable.

I've had times when I've repetedly hit tigers from every conceivable angle and every conceivable spot cept straight down the top or diectly underneith and have used a considerable amount of ammo in doing so only to see my rounds either bouce off or see hit sprite after hit sprite resister and have no effect (yes without resupply around)
Yet I've had my tigers taken out with a single ping from a panzer from over 3200+ repeatedly
How anyone can consistantly aim and hit anything in a specific spot from those ranges is beyond me.
At those ranges Im happy just to hit it let alone kill it

Morph the Reason's the russians hated the Tiger was because 1. you are on a Flat Steppe (Russian word for Low Land), 2 those Damn 88mm's shoot from outside your T34's Range, 3 Even if you do get in Range to Kill it your going to havbe to compete with the tiger Formation so it really isn't possible to come out alive unless you overwhelm. The Reason Tigers were so tough in WW2 as for All German Panzer, was because the German Panzer Formation Almost guarnteed you'd Survive.
The Tiger on the Western Front was effective, but not to the extent on the Eastern Front. Ex. is Micheal Whitmann a SS Panzer Lieutant. His formation of 5 Tigers Cut off a line of British GV's. Whitmann Destroy something like 40 tanks and GV's in under an Hour, the British were utterly hopeless because they were stuck on a road with no way out. He Kills a Few hours later, when a Firefly i thing Jumped him while he was going through the town to look for stragglers.
My point you need a formation of Tigers to be Effective.
(King tiger is a Different Story you could sit out in the Open all day and not worry ;) )
