Howdy all (Skuzzy).
Situation: Downloaded and installed AH2 twice with same result.
Double click shortcut, setup launches (resolution, etc). White screen... back to desktop.
Successive tries result in white launch window and then CTD.
Tried both with and without Waffle's sound pack - no difference.
Vitals:
P4 2.0Ghz
768 MB RAM
Ati 9600 128MB (ati2dvag.dll driver ("Cat 3.4" I think?)) Most recent driver, AFAIK.
DX 9.0B
No antivirus software running
The system Im runing is a canibalized Dell... so Ive got a Turble Beach Santa Cruz sound card... driver - as far as I can tell - is "sc_4193"
Any ideas? Had no problem running AHII during the first couple phases.
Ill keep this updated as I try new ****.
-
Update: Just updated to DX 9.0C... no change.
Update: Did all your recommended "tips and hints" Skuzz-meister; no change.

I have the same problems. My hard drive failed and need to re format and install a fresh os. after i install os and update. and install video card drivers and update. install ah2 patch 9 and start game pick 128 bit textures 1024x768 screen and pre load in systm mem. and keep at unlimited fps. click ok and im back at desktop. try to run game again and get a white screen and then back to desktop. Tryied restarting computer and still white screen and back to desktop. So I deleted vidconfig8 and tried again with out preload. Same problem. I need help. Acers high contint in my blood is getting low. starting to get faint.
Any help would be great (Skuzzy).

Have you made sure to check your firewall and grant access to AHII?
-
Delete the contents of the cache folder in AH2 directory.
It's kind of a pain because you'll get the long pre load bar as it replaces all the graphics but it might help you out.
I had to do this right after the patch to get things running right.
Hope it works for you too.
-
Its not a firewall problem - nothing been changed on the connection or the computer and I used to play the game without issue.
Just deleted the contents of the cache folder ("Version") with no improvement.
-
Same exact problem as him ^^
Cache folder didn't help either :( Thanks for the suggestion though
-
Bad shortcut maybe?
Delete the desktop shortcut, open the AH2 folder and create a new one to the aceshigh.exe file and drag it to desktop.
It's worth a shot.
-
No change.
The contents of the short cut read as follows:
Target: "C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II\aceshigh.exe"
Start in: "C:\PROGRA~1\HTC\ACESHI~1"
-
haveing exact same truble ( some times i wonder if this game is worth the truble)
-
ok first i doent run a firewall when i play i shut it down. Secound I cant even get to the image chach screen i can slect my video setting after i first install then when i click ok it goes back to desktop. Have tried deleting video8.cfg no help. Tried deleting all things in cach folder (only think there was verison.???) still no help. Had no problem playing the game in version 8. sinbce patch 9 came out no go with game.
-
the only thing i did today was run windows update (sp2) i wonder if that the truble
-
Could be.
Any you other guys that are having troubles run WinXP with the new sp2 update?
So far the only thing I see is that you all have in common is ATI vid cards.
-
I decided to try Aces High, downloaded it, tried to run it and had exact same problem. My vid card is a Radeon 9200. Guess this is the problem, oh well, lots of other online games to play.
-
I run a 9200se and windows me doent think this problem has anything to do with an os.
-
OK guys. Just had this problem with a fresh full install myself.
I fixed it by replacing the settings folder with one which I had on a CD as a backup.
So if you have any backup copies, just swap out the 'setting' folder.
I'll throw mine up for download and you can try it.
http://webpages.charter.net/clauig/ah_settings_folder.zip
Rename your current folder, and just unzip this into it's place.
Be warned... the game resolution is set at 1280x1024. If your monitor won't handle that, you'll need to open the Video8.cfg file with Notepad and change the settings to whatever your monitor can run.
-
well ill be damned lol
Thanks quig!!!
-
it's a bug for sure
drive c bit the dust this morning and after install a new drive & everything fresh, my ah2 is doing the same thing.
right after choosing video mode, screen goes black then, bang to desktop. No splash screen or anything. delete video cfg file, rinse-repeat
ATI 9800 pro here - latest ati driver and 9c directx
will try a backup setting folders and see what happens

neg - 32 bit on desktop here
replacing settings folder fix it, thanks quig
-
Glad it worked for you all
I am running 32-bit color on Desktop.
After a little 'process of elimination', I found out that the only 2 files the settings folder HAD to have in it were video8.cfg and freq.cfg.
As long as I put the freq.cfg file in there, it launched with no problems. I un-installed\re-installed 4 times so far, and just that one little file makes it all work.
Here is what is in that file:
1999034619
0
Hope that helps some.
-
Thanks for that, I had the same problem with a new installation and your freq.cfg file worked a treat :)
-
Skuzzy,
Am running 32-bit colors and had the problems nonetheless.

thanks quig thats fixed it :)

Thanks Quig, you crashed my computer and now I lost All files. I had lots of personal work that can never be replaced. You owe me a new computer.

J/K
Where the hell have you been? Since when are you a computer guru?:D
-
Well, it's been quite some time since i actively played AH but i usually checked the new versions from time to time - this was the 1st clean install that refused to run for me, regardless of the option i checked in the video configuration (the.cfg file was of course deleted on each try). The .zip download helped though, although i wonder if it may contain some personal information (and no, i'm not that nosey to even check that, just had a look at the file names).
Regards, az

Quig you're a genius!!! Thanks, you're little trick worked like a charm:aok
-
NN, read his entire post. I think you have time to edit yours.
-
Has this been solved yet? I'm getting the same problem now. Just did a fresh install of everything from WinXP Pro to AH2. Quig's workaround is not accessible anymore, can someone repost it?
Dx 9.0b
ATI 9800 Pro
Thanks.
-

Geez, Azrael, I remember you from back when I was a regular as well. Did you lose your forum account too (you are no junior member)?

Ahh! Thanks, I'll try it out. I was going to test out the base install offline before auto-updating.
-

-

3rd one down ... maybe he needs to do a video.cfg delate and or reset .
he may have one of the oddball gforce cards also its a gf3 but im not shure which one .
-
Mad, make sure you have your desktop set to 32 bit color.
Als mad, your problem may be with the sound card(s) you have. No hardware acceleration at all. They are all running in emulation mode. Did you install the driver for whichever one you really are using?
And you really need to disable one of the them as Windows/DirectX does not play wrll with multiple sound cards installed.
Thanks Rosco.

At the time I had them running emulated to see if it helped. But they usually run full. Another thing I found out is when I run the dxdiag video D3d tests it goes full screen and freezes at a white screen kinda like AH. Im clueless. My pc worked fine with AH I  Also I can play any other games fine with good FPS. Thanks for helping me guys
