This idea occurred to me as I responded to a General Discussion thread about the color and beauty of all the new skins, and I thought this would be the appropriate forum for the request:
Please enable External View for ALL planes (incl fighters) as long as you are on the ground. This would let pilots admire the beauty and detail of all the new skins without having to go offline. It'd be a realistic feature, as it could simulate the pilot's prefrlight walkaround of the aircraft.
I really can't think of any drawbacks to this idea - no unfair advantage is gained if you are still on the ground.

Sounds good to me. Since the detailed models/skins take so much effort to produce, we should maximize our opportunities to enjoy them, subject to gameplay considerations.

Can you bail out of plane parked on the ground, walk around it & view skin before going to the tower?

Good idea, Oboe, and of course I must again repeat my preference for enabling external views all the time for maximum appreciation of the beauty of this game.
If some prefer to stay in cockpit views, fine, but others might prefer the spectacle of outside cockpit views. In other flight sims that have exterior views, I didn't find any advantage in fighting via exterior views once combat started. But that option certainly increased my enjoyment of the game.

I can hit things at much higher deflection angles when in external than when I'm locked in the cockpit.

I'm sure the reason why they dont allow external views
while flying fighters is because people would use this as
an easy way to skirt around the natural objects (seats, window
piping etc) that hinder internal views..hence your SA would be
far greater with external views and considered not to be
a realism factor.

SA is greater but to me dogfighting in exterior view is much more difficult than with interior view, ironically because of too much distracting info from external view and less ability to concentrate on precisely aimed gunfire from internal view.

Actually it should be no different than than the carbombing switch, only in reverse.

engine off + parked = external view.
Would like to c the cool models and skins while online.
