Now that skins are 'taking off', shouldn't us skinners come up with a common palette (RGB values) so that things are consistant?
Personally I have been using the values found at http://www.1java.org/sh/ (Skinners Heaven).
-
i been using them values too umless it is just a number or marking change then i have been using what HTC started with
-
I started using HT's, but some of his colors are way off mark.
If we could all get together and decide on common RGB values, it would bring a nice uniformity to the colors.
-
Skinner's Heaven is an excellent resource but their USN blues looked too grey when I tried them. Another good site is http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_us.htm. No RGB values but useful all the same.
-
Even with "standards" like FS and RLM, real-life colors were all over the place. Factors like UV fading, in-field mixing, different batches and factories... they all caused different variations on what should have been consistent colors.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. :)
Besides, who decides what is correct? Even the experts can't agree.
-
I agree with Dux. It's like trying to find the "correct" color for a WWII German helmut. There were thousands of variations depending on when and where they were painted.
I use websites with RGB values as a starting point. I make changes when seeing the results ingame. Sometimes ingame results are far from realistic using "correct" RGB values.
Navy blue for example gets killed in game. Loses all detail options. I've stayed away from blue planes for that reason.
Don't begin to "split hairs" where there really aren't hairs to split.
Two centavos.

Poop, this is probably just a simple palette option issue... I'll try to address this in the next couple of days (no time right now)

A color list would be especially helpful to us color blind guys but it needs to be standardized on a universally available graphics program, namely MSPaint. From there you can convert to PS or GIMP or one of the other graphics programs. Yes, I know, it's not the best tool etc. etc.
I tired both the web resources named above on my skin but in the end I had to rely on photos and my kids to help me make the correct colors; some of which I can barely detect.
Kudos for a good idea.
Also, there is plenty of unused room on the skins for listing the primary RGB values with color swatches if the author will take the time. It would help when the image is dithered.
-
Would the list be for only overall colors or would it include the panel line and rivet colors too? A skin might start with nine basic colors for panels, lines and rivets but then what do you do for scratches, dirt, oil, fuel, etc.
I had to come up with all of these on the fly but it would have been nice if there was a couple of standard colors for dirt. ;)

This is the list I use for RAF.
Comes from the site in original post.
Seem very close to actual colors.
Color and RGB values
Azure Blue - 125,145,185
Sky - 182,196,171
Dark Green - 89,92,78
Middle Stone - 176,147,92
Dark Earth - 123,105,78
Dark Slate Grey - 97,99,82
Medium sea Grey - 143,147,150
Dark Sea Grey - 127,132,138
Extra Drak sea grey - 103,108,115
I just use black and white for rivets and panels.
Any others check http://www.1java.org/sh/

I'm using the RGB values off of Skinners Heaven also. With minor adjustments here and there.

Easyscor try this.
