Title: Sad day for the Dog
Post by: Wardog on March 18, 2000, 09:40:00 PM
Ive copied this over from the 357th BB. Reason i post it here, is because Zeus is the reason i have the handle Wardog.

We will run under the Squad name 357th Pitbull Express for a week or two in his memory..

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greets all..

After 2 weeks of losing weight and slowing down,my little friend Zeus is on his last legs. Got back from holidays 2 weeks ago to see he had lost weight. He stopped eating altogether a week ago. Yesterday he had a seizure on the evevator after his walk.

Brought him into the vet and they found a large cancer tumor in his stoach, this cancer has spread to his lungs & brain. The reason for the seizure. The vet figures he might have 2 weeks left in him. Seeing the pain he is in i have decided to put him down next week sometime.

Ive been his human for 11 years and we had been through tough times. He is the reason i have carried the Handle Wardog through AW DOS,Warbirds, and AH.

I might do a sortie or 2 to take my mind off of things. But i will not be flyin at par. My mind just aint thinkin strait. If ya say hi & im on,dont get upset if i dont reply,it will be because im not really paying attention.

I prolly wont fly much for the next week or so,its going to be hard looking over my shoulder to see an empty blanket.

I do intend to replace him this year some time, but out of the 4 American Pitbull Terriers ive owned,he was the best..

Cyas up.

I only can say that I am sorry, wardog  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif). I've grown up with dogs near me and I truly know how does it hurt when you lose those little big friends. But you must go on and keep on living...get a puppy if you want, or wait if that is your desire...but believe me that the best way to heal your pain is to get another pal and see it grow up...and remember the best days with Zeus, not the sad last ones...

<S>, wardog ,and <S> to Zeus. Is hard when such a friend leaves, but I'm sure he doesn't want to see you in such pain when he departs...remember the good days...and think in the next little bud you`ll get  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Nothing heals at all such lose...but for sure you'll have another wonderful "wardog" in your house soon  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Hmmmm, sorry for the loss Wardog, but hats off to you for putting him down. This one hits home in a big way.

My Dad is a Vet and for all my childhood instead of fixin planes I helped fix dogs and cats. I never really liked it, and the hardest part was seeing grown men break down in the office as Dad was preparing the “ Black Needle”.  It was really hard, I'll never forget it. Pets are cool stuff, and the bond goes deep, I sure know.

Thing is, I knew from talking to Dad that it wasn’t bad at all putting the hurt animal down. It was in fact the kindest gesture in the final days that you could do.

You say a lot about yourself  by putting him down quickly. It means that you care so much about your pet, you put his pain above your pain of loss, and I know as bad as it hurts you, it hurts the animal so much more to keep them alive. You dealt with it, that's pretty hard.

Surley the memories of him happy is better than the dragging the final days out seeing him in pain.

This is kinda off-sim topic, but I relate and hope I kinda helped in a small way.

Peace,

Creamo

WarDog,

I took my handle, buhdman, in memory of a good friend of mine who I had to put down after finding a cancerous tumor in his abdomen.  Buhd was a good friend to me and, even though he was a mutt (Springer Spaniel-Beagle mix = Speagle), he did me proud when he won the blue ribbon in his dog obedience class!  Putting him down was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.  Missing him is another.

You have my deepest sympathies.

My Friend,

Im sorry to hear of the bad news...I myself had to put down my German Shepard of 11 yrs...that was 10 yrs ago and I'm still not over it.

What helped me is reminding myself that he was loved and had a good life compared to many dogs just left alone in the yard.

Consider yourself blessed to have had a friend such as only a dog can be.

Your Friend,

Otto

Sing a happy song
'Cause Spring does not last long
A flower blooms and then it's gone

Summer follows fast
Make hay while it lasts
Don't ever dwell upon the past

For one day you are here, and the next you are gone
Every horse has its year and every dog its day, my son
So the only thing to feel sad about is
All the dogs and the horses you'll have to outlive
They'll be with you when you say good-bye

Then the Fall from grace
The lines upon your face
Grow deeper almost every day
Days and weeks roll by
And Winter nights draw nigh
And everything that lives must die

But as the curtains close and the last prayers are said
All my dogs and my horses appear round my bed
They have come to say one last goodbye

Goodbye...

Very sorry to hear this, Wardog.

Give Zeus a big thank you for being your best friend for so many years, then have him put to sleep. It's the best thing you can do for him now. If you can stand it, be there with him when he goes. There's no shame in sobbing over a dying friend.

neer me sat in front of me carrying in his
mouth the harnest and looke right in my eyes
like he was telling me "come lets take a walk and tell me all about it...."so I whent

I felt releived and was happy again  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Poeple dont ask why we love so much a dog
but just pay attention to the way they act
and then you'll know why I love animals sometime beter than humans.....

Reading these posts have brought a tear to my eye.  I remeber Ralphy from a long time ago when I was growing up.We ran through corn fields together and played Space Dog together.  I was the captain of a crashed ship and Ralphy was the evil Robo Wolf that would tackle me when I was found.  He passed away a few years back but I keep his memory alive every day.  I think of old times and of hard times when he was there for me.  When my parents yelled at me Ralphy would come to my bedroom and sit on the bed and lick my face and shake my hand.  He was a dear friend.  Now I have another little guy, his name is Cisco and he too has been there for me.  He helped me with Ralphy's loss and I have lots of memories with Cisco.  To me my little friends as you called them are in fact my little brothers.  I loved Ralphy and I love Cisco dearly.  But always remember this Wardog.  Zeus and Ralphy are probably up in heaven right now drinkin moonshine and howling at the moon, chasing females and havin a good ol time as they wait for us to once again be with them.

Tkx all..

For the kind words and support. My others Dogs were put to sleep because of old age. I never seen anything like what had happened to Zeus, The Cancer was so fast in taking him that i could see the difference in him each day over the last week.

He was put to sleep at 9:05am March 20th. I couldnt hold back the tears, but he will allways be my co-pilot no matter where he is.

Thx all and <S>................

With all due respect to WD and his dog, Skorpyon don't ya think maybe a P51 with a dog on the side of it is going just a bit far? LOL! Hate to sound like an a*s but this thread is a bit on the touchy feely side for me.

I've got 3 kids and we've had more animals than noah. The latest victim-er pet we had was a kitten who met its demise under the rear tire of my wifes car. We just picked up a puppy at the humane society a few weeks ago. I really liked it the first week or so but I'm sick of scraping sh*t outa my GD garage now. Maybe it will dissapear at the hands of my psycho neighbors soon, like the last 5 (count 'em 5) have myseriously dissapeared over a course of 4 years. (Time to take some action) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Oh well, I'm rambling now. Just tryin to lighten up the thread a little WD  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).

Now jump in that P51 and resume killing my a*s! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

hblair.....
It goes both ways man.. heh.. to some, they are pets, to others they are companions.  Obviously this one was the latter.  My "card" was simply a gesture of condolence, and done in the vain of WD's connection with his companion... his callsign, and even temporary squad name, being dedicated to this particular companion.  On the AH message boards we have recently witnessed losses that I think we would all regard as more significant, but this one I am sure was significant also.  Besides, I guess I'm just an old-fashioned, hopeless, sentimental bastard, who just so happens to like playin' with graphics programs.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  Also, for a short while, WD was a squad-mate, and Hallmark doesn't make cards as appropriate as mine... hee hee.
Hasta.
