Title: OK, time to separate the wheat from the chaff
Post by: dolomite on January 20, 2000, 06:12:00 PM

Quote
Next week, we will be ending the free beta period of Aces High with the release of
version 1.0. You can continue to play for free for two weeks from the time you first log in
post-beta. At the end of the free two week trial period, you will have to register a credit
card number with us or have sent a check to us to continue to play. After the end of
beta, you will still be able to use your existing beta account, you do not need to create
a new account. All unused beta accounts will be deleted 30 days from the end of the
                    beta.

The end of the beta does not signify a change in our development. Aces High will never
be "done", there will always be new features to add and new technologies to take
advantage of. Aces High is the sole project of HiTech Creations, so our attention will
stay focused on it and development will continue at a brisk pace.

We wish to thank everyone for making this beta period a success. It has been a lot of
fun and very memorable. We hope to continue to receive your support to make Aces High
the best game that we can.

... new technologies to take advantage of.

This caught my eye.  Two new technologies I would like to see taken advantage of:

- Multiple USB controllers.  Looks to be the way things are heading, folks are already posting on the hardware board about this.

- Hardware acceleration for transformation and lighting calculations on the 3D card.

These two technologies are already here, do we have a plan or schedule to incorporate them?  This is meant not as a criticism, but as a query & recommendation.    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  I think the crew here is doing a great job!

I have only flown for 3 nights now, but I am hooked.  After 5 years of Air Warrior, this sim is like a breath of fresh air.  Congrats on an outstanding and "FUN" Air sim HT.  Needless to say I am in for the long haul  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

btw, do I get a discount because I live in TX (Houston)?  hehe

Well, I'll make it short. It was great seeing alot of guys I used to fly with,
and I think the sim is great and well worth the price. But the WIC (woman in charge)
says that we cannot afford it at this time so I guess I'm in the "chaff" section.
With AH close to going pay, I'd rather avoid the pain of being forced out, so's I say this is a "later guys" deal. Will be back
someday, just not sure when
regards, Wilton Stewman- Pzvg
P.S. Pyro, Hitech, et al, thanks for taking back some of what was lost to the corperate trolls, it's a great sim

I am from Texas (Spring) also, seems I on til 3am way too often - may have to enroll in AA (AH Anonymous).  If you figure out how to explain it to your wife, let me know mine thinks I am crazy (she's right).  Now if I can just get her to understand why I should pay .... well that will better harder.

Hmmm...

Not sure if this makes me "chaff", but with the number of hours I've actually spent playing AH over the last several weeks, I'm not sure I'd be getting my money's worth out of my flat rate fee.

If I was playing a lot more, I think it would definately be worth it especially since the game will only get better with time and it has more built-in room for growth than brand-W currently has.  Unfortunately, I don't think I'm playing enough and the reasonably priced flat rate that's been discussed in here before would work out to a fairly steep rate for me.

I'm definately going to have to think long and hard about it, especially since brand-W is releasing a new damage model and it was the damage model problems that caused me to stop playing that game.  AH is years ahead of brand-W in flight model and potential, but I'm just not spending enough time online for various reasons.

My opinion only of course, and I don't mean to say in any way that I am finding fault with AH.  It's a gaming time based economic decision right now.

Of course, if my squaddies end up playing lots of AH, I'll by default end up with an account just so I can show for squad nights.  I'll just end up grumbling to myself about the flat rate whenever I don't fly much.

Well I will be signing up. I have to admit I am a bit dissapointed in the lack of any deals for a long term contract or for qualified Beta testers who have helped them perfect the game so far.
I discussed it briefly once with HT and they were "considering" it but obvoiusly the "free 2 weeks" is all that came up. Myself I would have much preferred a 5 or 10% discount for those of us paying 9 to 12 months in advance.

I burned out with WB's long ago...No Strat.

AH has a little improvement in that regard but still not enough.
I want trains, convoys and columns, tanks and the occasional hospital to take out  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) .

I personally will wait and see what develops because like eagl I wouldn't fly enough to warrant the flat rate.

Well, I'm out.

There are so many things I just love about AH, but in the end, so far, it's just the same type crappy arena play as there is in AW.

When scenarios come around in AH, I *may* change my mind.

Or if AH ever gets an early war arena that people actually frequent I'll probably change my mind.

Or when I get over my general flightsim burnout, and I want to fly the best, AH has a great shot at being my choice.

But for crappy arena play?  Yawn.

Hopefully hitechcreations will have a good method of keeping us outsiders informed on what's going on inside the game.  I know I'm going to try to poke my head in from time to time.
