I went there yesturday And saw the spruce goose the biggest plane in the world so huge. And alot of ww11 planes. It was cool I got to sit in a cockpits. I cant belive that they building that size of airplane with wood.

I have yet to lay eyes on a WWII bird. When that day comes, ohhh when that day comes....
-
XJ, you're saying you've never seen a WWII bird in real life? Never? Never ever ever? How do you survive!
(faints)
(after coming to)
If you're ever in the Dulles/D.C. area, i'd recommend the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy museum. Its got quite a few WWII birds and still adding. Ive got many pictures on CD if you want me to post a few. It really pulls you in because when you walk in the door, thers a P-40 and F4U pointing their noses right at you from about 20 feet away. Its a great museum and I only see it getting better.

Go up to Tillamook NAS Museum in Oregon. You'll like it there. If you are REAL lucky, you might see a gentleman about 80 or so standing close to "Tangerine" (Jack Erickson's P-38L). He's the real deal. One of the best pilots who flew the plane, had well over 3000 hours. Advanced instructor and a combat veteran.

Tillamook is really something to see. The building was originally an airship hangar designed for the US Navy's rigid airships. (Akron, etc.) It's an attraction all by itself. (Look for the basketball hoop in the rafters ... probably 100 ft+ off the ground.)
About 5 years ago I was in Lincoln City and saw that P38 and a B25 flyover. Both are still at Tillamook I believe. I also remember seeing an F4U-7 at that time. Most of the planes there are still in flyable condition.

Besides the Spruce Goose and the usual WW2 american iron, Evergreen also has a Spit XIV, a 109G-10, and an SR-71. Well worth taking a look at.

I went to an ww2 airplane museum in Kissimmee Florida.
They didn;t have much there, but I fell in love with their
completely restored F4U. Also, at the time, they happen to
have a private owner flying his P-51 around the airfield. Man
that was an awesome sight to hear it buzz by with the
supercharger just hummin away

XtrmeJ, they don't have any museums or old planes in Hawaii? I'd think there was something at Pearl....maybe?

XtrmeJ,
You can see a P-40 at the entrance to Wheeler AFB on Oahu (ignore the kid in the guard post who tells you it's a P-51)
You can see the wreckage of a C-47 on the Aiea Loop Trail here too. (It crashed in 1943)
And if you're a SCUBA diver, you can see a Corsair someone dumped out on the reef as a dive attraction.
regards, Airman T. E. Shaw
P.S. Tillamook is very neat! You can get much closer to the planes than in most aviation museums...you can actually stand inside the twin tail booms of a P-38, spread out your arms and FEEL the space. But you may not touch. No touching!
Heh, had no idea there even was an aviation museum out there; my sister told me I should go see the cheese factory, then I drove past this billboard with a life-size silhouette of a Corsair, whoa!

Pearl and the D-Day musuem in New Orleans had a few specimens of some beatiful WWII aircraft. Also a airshow out by Fulton NY that has tons of WWII,a few were shown off in the air,it was a great site. I got pictures somewhere. Had a great looking B17 there (drools)

XJ lives in Hawaii ... don't know if there are any WW II museums on his island.
I would think that there must be some WW II aircraft on display on one of the islands.
-
i thought there was atleast one WWII aircraft at Pearl. My memory is failing me. I dont feel like goin through hours of video right now either lol.
