Title: Loss of detail on skins
Post by: oboe on August 24, 2004, 01:25:17 PM
Just got back into skinning after a while off and I have a curious problem.   When I get a skin into the game and look at it, there is no detail.  For example, Cit's great P-40E template, full of panel lines and rivets.   He provided a .psd file, which I merge layers and save as a bmp.   When I bring this skin up in the game, all rivets are gone and the panel lines have lost most of there detail.   Same is true on a P-47 I was workgin on.

The image size for the bmp files is 1024x1024, resolution is 72 pix/inch.   Anybody know what I could be doing wrong?

Thanks!

What is the texture detail set at in-game? Probably not 1024.

Always going to be a problem.
Textures are 1024x1024 so it you are using 512 in game they are resampled down to 512, no way round detail loss, its inevitable.

That was it, thanks.   I had changed the texture size all the way down to 256 to get the game playable and forgotten I'd done it.   Changed it back to 1024 and saw some of the skins in their absolutely riveting beauty, but the FR and freezes are too much to enjoy the game.   Went back to 512 and it seems to be the best compromise.

Gonna try another 512 stick of memory to bring me up to 1024 Mb, and hope that helps.  Its a shame not to be able to appreciate these skins.
