I have to say im still undecided. The price is right. IMO Theres no doubt about that.
We would all like to have the sim that we want. And of course, we all want different things (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif). So that cant happen. I have some whines that I wont bore u with. They fall in this catagory.
However there are a couple that I do feel serious about.
The last man standing rule is so unfair in nature. That it is really offensive.Example. I attacked 4 cons by myself (I had them surrounded). I wont waste your time with a play by play. But on viewing the film. I had taken the wing off 2 of them and they were augering, the third was smoking, the last was an HO and it looked like I got him before i exploded (hard to tell on the film. All I got for my effort was XXXX killed TT. I worked overtime in that fight. And i deserved more than xxxx killed TT.
Secondly. This is boarderline easymode. My name in WB was easymo. So I know easy mode. When you can push x and pull out of a spin thats just to easy.
Last, the rubber bullit problem I get from time to time. I would buy a new card, get cable, signe up for another isp. Whatever. If they would just tell me what I need to do. I have asked on this board before and never got an answer. I can go weeks with no problem. But when it starts there is no warning. And finding out you have dummy ammo in the middle of a furball is no fun (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).
Anyway, like I said. I havent decided. Maby if some of you post your reasons pro or con, it might give me a different perspective. Thanks.

I really like what they've done so far.
There are some bugs I asked about two months ago that haven't been touched yet.
Also we have thirty active members in our squad and a few of them are macs.We can not make a move unless everyone can come with us.
Some of them can only play in 2D also and we can't leave them behind either. We'll have to wait and see what happens down the road.

Yep..gettin out the ol plastic.
My only fear is there being someone to shoot at when this thing goes pay!
-
Granger, same fear existed when CK when pay, believe me, you won't have anything to fear. I would imagine that initially, instead of seeing about 110 online during the week, you may see about 70 to start.
Count me in, got my Platinum warmed up for the occasion.

Hey, np here!
As far as your rubber bullet question is concerned, I think the reason you haven't gotten advice on what to do is that there is no clear way to answer it.
Your connect quality depends on your ISP and HTC's server, but also every hop on the route inbetween. I don't know of any way to ever fix that; I have moved to different ISP's with varying degrees of success, but it is largely trial-and-error. I did finally go ISDN, and that has made a big difference in my connect quality all-around. It is also becoming very affordable to the average user (else I wouldn't do it). We had two phone lines costing $48 a month + $20 ISP = $68 per month. ISDN, which also includes two phone lines, is $55 + $20 ISP =$75 per month.
These prices are dependent on your region, so shop around. The minimal extra cost is money well spent. I even have a router box set up that allows the wife instant-on Internet, and we (as a side benefit) have a LAN. A pretty good deal all-around, something the whole family can use. Yah.. I'm in.. certainly I feel there's enuff product here already to justify the pay.. and I like the developers attitude and accesibilty.
Staying in?? That will depend entirely on HTC's delivering the other half of the sim.. where's the JABO stuff.. roads; trains; vehicles; ships; etc. I have no doubt they will come; but how they handle the CURRENT ration of playability issues will give me a better feel on what to expect in the future.
This is a super outfit; and the core group of member/players is a very sharp crowd. I expect to have an outstanding time.. and expect that HTC's crew will too. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Agree with you there Hangtime, as I mentioned early in a thread, the first guy that does vehicles in the strat will get the most business, IMO. Business success=offer something that the competition doesn't have, and the people want.

HT staited last night that the first man down rule was written in stone (not his words) There is no way to assign a kill to a dead pilot. Sounds like he dumps the record structure for a pilot on death..if this is one of the centeral attirbutes of the game design is would be hard to get arround. He would have to make a global structure and keep track of things like
TT is dead and on the runway to take off again.
now his three enemys die...
Do we assign those kills to old tt or new tt.. We want numbers like kills per mission and kills per death so it all has to be kept track of.
In a quick vulch situation TT could tag three of his attackers and have them all slowly spiraling to the hills from different flights with different TTs...
hmmmm
Undecided as to signing up...
I would like to see what the comunity is like under pay befor I decided. But the first too weeks of pay will be just like Beta...

You have the general problem pongo, but it gets much worse when you think things like discos. Points award per multiplier from how the flight ended. Plus how many times have said they wan't more of an insentive to live. This is one. And what it realy comes down to is that it's the same score system for everyone so adding the post death kill award dosn't add any fairness and isn't worth the complexity in coding.

the best solution for the kill awards is to award the kills earlier. you don't have to wait until the pilot bails! come up with a definition for fatal damage to an aircraft and assign the kill as soon as the plane has it. for example, once a plane looses a wing, it should be considered destroyed and the kill awarded ( though perhaps not announced until later...). i believe killing the engine on a single engine plane or starting a fire were considered suffecient for a kill at the time. if the plane burns or the prop stops with smoke, you didn't have to see him crash.
this would also solve kill stealing problems ( which i haven't seen as much of here ). if the engine has been killed, then someone else CAN'T get the kill by filling it with cannonfire, because the kill has already been awarded ( though an assist for finishing off might be appropriate).

Plan to. Just have to convince the wife. Which may not be easy. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

I would like to stay (and pay), however I will need to find out if I can afford it. As of now, I am in college majoring in Electrical Engineering, so I am unsure whether the amount of time I would be able to play justifies spending $30/month. (I have a minimum of 12 hours of homework a week (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif) ) I'm not, however, arguing the price. I realize that with such a narrow consumer base, and a company of only a few people, lowering the price at all could result in the death of a very fine flight sim. ( I would, however, be interested knowing if you plan to offer reduced rates for those that pay for, say, three months at a time. )
So, for now, I want to say thank you to HT and crew for letting me play the best online flight sim (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) for the last 4 months. It's up to me now to decide if I can afford the monetary and time investment. I truely hope so.
I'm hoping to continue being shot down by you TT, as long as you let me get you once or twice as well. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

What has changed - early ver .38 & 39 , mutual kills in head on almost always awarded kill (and death) to both pilots. Now only see dual award very rarely. Also if I hit enemy hard but was unable to kill (say - ran out of bullets) and he limped off but crashed or bailed several minutes later would still award kill (if i was still flying or in chute). Never see that anymore. And why two kills if you shoot down plane and then pilots dies. Being in the chute is just an extension of that flight (til ended). I am sure pilots were not award one kill for plane and one kill for pilot if he died a few seconds later. If I get shot and auger, I got killed and lost plane - one award. I get shot and bail but too low to make it I got killed and lost one plane - two awards (some times?). Just doesn't equate. Don't understand the logic.

I too must say that the verdict is NOT in. We (VF-17) have discussed it, and the majority (actualy, no one said go at all) have major concerns about some being able to handle the "GRAPHICS" load, and Hitech's appearent "blow-off" of graphic selectability (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif). WE have taken the stance so far also of the all or none switch (again, no one posted otherwise to the squad mail list). IT IS a fine sim in the making, however the money involved in systems + pay plan, definatly does NOT work for MOST at this time (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif).

Thank you for your posts. You "try it for awile, see where it goes" guys make sense. I think all this so called realistic gunnery stuff began with HOOf. He is working at Conered Rat. So maby they will get it right. In the mean time AH is better than anything else online right now. So I think ill follow your example.
-
At the moment I'd have to say no. Good game, but missing too many elements. Bizarre tho it may sound, if HTC comes up with a "10 bucks for 10 hours" scheme, or something similar where I can play a few hours for a few dollars, I'll probably be in.
But I don't see myself leaving Warbirds any time soon (connectability notwithstanding). The main things I play for are squadron ops and scenarios and historical matchups. The squad isn't showing any signs of moving, and there ARE no scenarios or historical matchups here, and in fact the current plane set won't even support any of that stuff.
But for an hour or two of "in your face" dogfighting, sure, its a great sim. But I'm not gonna plunk down $30 for it.
How bout it HTC? Any "limited play" options? Sounds weird, I know, (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) but it certainly wouldn't HURT to let the "cheapskates" play a few hours at some sort of hourly charge.

-
No, absolutely I'm not going to sign.
The game is still to a very low beta status.
missing lots of things, although it is a fine and promissing sim there is things that i dont like.
I think WBs is still better than AH, maybe not for long time, but I'll not pay for a beta.
I'll keep watching the develop and downloading the patches and reading the BB, but ii keep an eye on WB 3.0 too.

Count me in as a willing target (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I'm in. Been playin AW since 94 it progressed well, but it's just too old now. I'm not sure what's gonna happen with Air Warrior Vietnam now that Aol/Time (or was it Fox) owns Kesmai. I know Aol's been sticking with the pay by the hour scheme and I would assume thats what they'll try with Jet warrior if it ever arrives. I wont pay by the hour.....ever, for anything, it ruins the game.
I'm gettin kinda board with the simple Air to Air kinda thing. Fighters flew fer a reason...ground attack, close in troop support, cap, bomber escort..whatever. So I'm real excited about WWII online and the strategic model they want to introduce. If that's flat rate I'll fly both WWII Online and this. Hell, if jet warrior actually comes to fruition, I may fly all 3, but would probably drop AH in favor of WWII Online, assuming they have as good a flight model as AH. Either way, after what seems to have been a long dry spell in online flight sims we're finally getting some genuinely new products. As a community we should try to support the best ones.

I for one will NOT be signing up......yet. One reason is that the 2 squads belong to in Warbirds (JG5 and 333rd Red Dawgs) show absolutely no signs of moving to AH. Another reason is that I wanna hold my money back until I see what WWIIO will be like. Maybe then AH will have that little something extra to sway my decision.
Until then I'll be monitoring this board and I hope to see you guys in the simulated skies somewhere..be it AH or somewhere else.

I dunno AH is like my mistress but I'm going to wait for WWIIOL to go beta see what they have to offer if it's all hype then I'll pay for me first love if it doesn't then I'll cheat on AH.
-
I guess I never did add my "FWIW" in here on this thread ...
I'm keeping my iEN account, 'cause I really like Dawn of Aces. Since I'm no longer a starving college student, I can afford AH, too (guess it's actually cheaper than WB to addicts, anyway (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) ). And, as has been said, I like the attitude and responsiveness of HTC.
But, I'm not big on the three country deal ... DoA is cool because everbody just takes two sides, don't see Purple being played (maybe because the most I've encountered there at one time is 43). Anyway, I've decided it will be worth my $30 when there are "historical" events at least every other weekend ... until then I'll get my WWII fix in the WB HA.
So, I'm in when HTC comes out with a "historical" event schedule that shows at least two weekends a month. Seems like the current plane set and number of players would support that, right?
