I want to play AH2 an dhave fun......Im not..
1) get new video card
2) get new ram
3) Get FPS in teens and single digits
Got latest driver form ATI
Got direct x 9.0b
p 1.6gig
768 ram
ati 9600 256mb
Is there a place I can take this HUNK OF CRAP to run ?
ohyaa..I had 2 sound cards running...I went to Control PAnel-Sound Devices and turned it off..but still crap
I think I now wish for old AH...whaa
-
I dont think that 1.6 can push the 9600 to its fullest.
-
i dotn need 100 fps..can i just get atleast always over 20s?..
-
If i was you I would atleast upgrade to 2.0 pentium.
-
You got a lot of things running in the background, Greencloud?
I can get the same FPS with a 1.0 GHz, 1/2 the ram, and 9200 se PCI card in my other system.
Something aint right.
-
Don't listen to Jet. He's barely even literate.
I run a 1.67 gig with 512 meg of memory and the same card as you.
Change your texture setting to 256. Run your resolution at 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600. Go to your monitor refresh setting and up it as high as it'll allow. Make sure you adjust your ingame vid settings to have it predownload art to your video card.
Make sure you're not running tons of crud in the background.
Scan for virii. Run a spyware detector. Defrag.
Should do it for ya.
-
My laptop can run this game and get 35frps with ease in some very nasty furballs.
P3 1.2 Ghz
512 Ram
Geforce3 16mb. (yup 16mb)
I asked how it is posible to run AH2 on that little system, Hitech beleived it was my ram and a half way decient processor that was making up for my POS vid card in my laptop.
Anyways... My desktop is used for AH2.
What arlo said should make the difference. Get that stuff settled and do some cleaning within your system and I trust your system will run AH2 much more smoothly.
A 1.6 is more than enough, you have good memory and your vid card is, again, more than enough to run AH2.
Upgrade your entire system if you are going to upgrade at all. Moving to a 2.0 is for the birds. JetB still has much to learn but still means well... With that said, you have no need to upgrade just to run AH2. Your system is just fine for that task.
Good luck.

wow..lot of stuff in there..
So..it seems to be fien to me whiel doing the tests...
I cant tell what to read into this..
1 thing stuk out....it says my #1 ram slot is the 128mb...
And #3 is the 512mb
Do i need to have the 521mb in the #1 slot?
wow..now im lost...
btw ..the last thing i havent done is do anti-virus..its a 6 month old new OS..I have yet to buy an Anti virus program..
The rest of my computer seems to run just fien tho
-
That looks like a system built with the original Intel i845 chipset, which used SDRAM (PC133). If that's the case, unfortunately, it will never perform well.
Using PC133 SDRAM with a P4 crippled its performance so much (we are talking a 40 - 50% performance hit here) that there was actually a class action lawsuit against several computer manufacturers and Intel, because the performance of these systems was actually significantly lower than older P3 1 GHz machines.
Look and see what type of memory you have in your system. Check if it's PC133 Sdram and not PC2100 DDR memory. If it is PC133 Sdram you will not be able to increase performance without changing out your motherboard and ram at the least.
-
Yikes, not only is your system probably using PC133 SDRAM, it also appears to be using a Willamette type Pentium 4. (Willamette core P4s had only 256kB L2 cache and were the original version of the Pentium 4. They were NOT a good performer and were quickly replaced by Northwood 'A' core P4s.)
Is this a name brand system?
-
wow..
bloom..first of all it is dam good to see you..hope to wing up soon soemtime
and,,dammit man ..too much info...ya..it was a piece together system my IT guy at work helped me put together..For a "inexpensive " price..damm
im hopn getn this other sound card off will work..will report more later..
dam im depressed now..
-
Couple of things....
http://www.grisoft.com
AVG is great FREE virus protection...no excuse not to have something.
Also....
Fry's electronics (the armpit of customer service) has a XP 2800+ "combo" for $89.99 and 256MB sticks of PC2700 mem for $19.99. Assuming you have a decent case you can upgrade your guts for $150...not what you want to here but may be what you need...

if you want to disable a onboard sound card, do it throu the BIOS setup and not windows.
if its a PCI slot sound card just take it out from your computer.

Did you try the steps I outlined?
Oh ... and go ahead and upgrade the DX to 9.0b
