Just for the he11 of it, does anyone have a win XP clock that actually keeps time? If so, how'd u do it?
I updated daily for 14 days, still lose almost 16 min a day. I used 4 different time places as well, lol.
WTG Bill Gates, u spent so much on lawyers and lobby groups to crush all the small businessmen, and u can't make a computer keep time....hehe.

Actually it's your computer's system clock that is fubar. Windows only read the time from the hardware system clock (how else would it know what time it is when you turn the power on).

Sounds like your computers battery is going dead.
It's on the motherboard.
The battery is what keeps your BIOS for being wiped out when the computer is turned off.
Its one of those little button type lithium watch batteries.
Time to get a new one I think.

Oh. I thought it was a rechargeable thingy. So there's a hidden battery somewhere eh? OK thanks I'll try that.
It's the year 2004, ya think they'd put a rechargeable system in there.

Nah. The lithium battery lasts for many years and is much more reliable than a rechargable one.
Get inside your computer with a flashlight and look along the edge of the motherboard. You'll see it, it's not hidden.
You should be able to see the info on the battery so you can get another exactly like it.
When you go to change it, do it fast. Take the old battery out and slip the new battery right in there.
It takes awhile for the chip to lose its data but if you wait too long you could lose the data on the CMOS chip and that would be frustrating.

Yikes! Now ya got me nervous. I'll definetly have the other one ready to go before unplugging the other one.
BTW Blooz, thanks for the advice on keeping my machine neat after my complete reboot. What I didn't expect when, today, a week later, I went to run the defragmenter for the first time since reload, and WOW 29% defragged!! In all the years i've used that , I've never seen 29%. I woulda figured with less files and just having reloaded machine, I wouldn't even need to run defragger, wow, you learn something new all the time.

Glad to help.
Yup. When doing a complete re install of OS and programs the computer doesn't care where on the hard drive the files go. They are scattered all over the place.
Disk cleanup, scan disk and defrag are smart HD maintenance.
Not to worry about that battery thing. It takes several minutes for the chip to lose data (some say hours).
Anyway, just to be safe, don't mess around. Have the new battery ready to go and change them without wasted time.
Best of luck.

Well, you can sync your time with atomic clock for example.
Download utility here: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,16627,00.asp
OR
You can use winXP internet clock sync
Settings-->Control Panel-->Date and Time
Look under "Internet time" tab -- all pretty much self explanatory
Set it to automatic sync
