But what about the HE damage? Seems like 6 hispano pings from d300 should take out just about anything. Heck, used to be 4 took out any fighter. But tonight I nailed a spitty all across the top of his plane and all he lost was oil. I know this is just a gamey feature, and I'm cool with that. Historically however, what should that have done to the spitty in question? I'm assuming disintegrate it.

The Hispanos seem fine to me in AH2 -- as good and lethal as ever against A2A targets.

The way the 20mm cannon looks. It should be easy to destroy a plain with 6 hits.
-
I don't think Hispanos fired explosive ammo.
-
Hispanos are a cannon round and they are explosive.
-
Storch,
Hispano's were used with HE rounds. I have never found a source that had the RAF ever using AP ammo in them. Their effectiveness against armored GVs was way to high in AH.
-
Standard RAF loadout was 2 HE followed by 2 SAP/I.
-
What exactly is a SAP/I round? I'm assuming AP means armour piercing.. and the /I means incendiary.. whats the S?
-
Semi-Armour-Piercing / Incendary.
Big chunk of metal on the nose of the bullet and some sort of magnesium or other high temperaature burn compound in the space left. The SAP bit was to get into the fuel tank, the I bit to set it on fire.

IIRC, it is Semi Armor Piercing / Incendiary.

Thanks for the replies guys, its good to hear that you all aren't experiencing the same problems. The background as to why all this matters to me is that I have a satellite connection at home. For those of you who don't know, satellite has high throughput but also high latency. Meaning my ping times are in the 800s normally. This really doesn't affect too much that I've noticed in AH despite the fact that the damage I inflict on planes takes a while to take full affect. So it used to be that I would count my hits and break off after say 4-5 cannon hits as to not waste ammo, then count 1000-1, 1000-2, and the wing would fall off, or something to that nature.
Now it could just be that there is more of an affect in AH2, so that I see some "rubber bullet" hits or something to that affect. I have to live with it till DSL or cable comes to the area cus I'm not going back to dialup!
guys, see you up there.

Hmmm.....
Had similar problem.
For me the problem was V-Sync!!!
Was getting good hits on cons but little or no damage.
As per Skuzzy turned V-Sync to always on rather then program preferences and now when I hit parts come off etc.
Have noticed last couple of days though that the server is either acting wierd or there are a few people using some kinda connect thing to get an advantage.
Last night was in on a box of Lancs that disappeared then almost a second later reappered. Another person blasted the lead Lancs' tail section off and dang if it didn't go down then disappear again then come back to where it was originally and now minus it's tail section drop it's bomb load on target that looked like 1/4 mile away???!!!.
Is this map/graphics engine too much for the server????
Maybe just bad connect but all in the area saw and reported seeing the same thing.

Yeah, I did the vsync thing and that fixed some problems. I used to see basically what you described (I just chalked this up to my connection) but I would go in on a set of 26s, from 9 o'clock low, completely annihilate the one to the far left, watch it explode, only for the explosion to clear and the buff to still be there. It was hurt, but barely went down. Used to see that quite often. Now there was a storm in my area last night, and my connect sucked even worse... but I saw a typh disapear then reappear 1.5 behind me. Now I'm sure that was on my end, but it was still funny to see =)
