About 10 days or so ago, flash floods hit the desert up here and it was so severe in Death Valley that two people were killed and the park was closed. It's supposed to open up somewhat this week.

why the hell would even go there in summer?

It's ok.

The hotel there has its own primitive air conditioning and at night you can travel south along 95 and stop at the red light of your choice.
