what does this check box do?
i had checked up untill now and realize i have no idea what it means?
-
It loads the aircraft graphics directly into system RAM (Random Access Memory) or Video RAM (depending on which option you can use).
The game program accesses RAM much faster than your hard drive so this makes the game run much smoother.
Instead of the game program searching your hard drive for the info it's already loaded in the RAM and ready to use instantly.

so, whats the down side of using it?
-
No downside.
Video RAM is faster than System RAM so if you can use that option take it.

Hey Blooz, I ha ve a 128meg pci card, i'm only using 27megs, do i have enough ram left? How many megs we talkin about anyway?
thanks.

No idea. You'll just have to experiment with it.
Select the least amount of texture size and see if it works. If it does, increase the texture size until it doesn't work then we'll know.
I use a nvidia 4200ti 128mb card and use preload to system memory with 512 size textures. If I reduced the size it may work in video memory but it works fine now so I don't mess with it.
I'm a member of the "if it ain't broke...." club.

check the box
then the skins and stuff are in memory instead of sitting on your hard drive so that when the plane flys up in the skin you haven't seen before since you logged on, you see it without the studder/lag the hardrive causes as it try to access/display the texture to your cpu/monitor
memory is better/faster than hard drive access - video ram if you have a 256 Vcard - otherwise use system memory
