No they dont, but they do delay them until the morning, or they cause you even more problems.
This just in...
Nilsen just did about 16000 $ worth of damage to his parents boat and he is still abit shaky, but the alcohol is helping him cope

were you drinking at the time of the accident?
if so no pity except for your parents.
if you were sober, when driving the boat, and hit the rock. sorry to hear, was in unmarked, or water line really low?
you mention hurt, were you thrown?
how did you get boat in? motor gone, assuming transom almost ripped out, and boat probably close to sinking. that kind of accident usualyl some type of government official is involved.
-
see you in hell Nilsen, cause thats where you are going after they finish with you:rofl
if your parents are materialistic, you're dead, if not, they'll be glad you're OK, the boat is secondary
-
He said he was drinking, which is why I called him a handsomehunk-anyone can hit a rock.
-
Nilsen
On the upside no one was really hurt.
That is something.

Well, with chicks on board anything can happen, right?
-
You know...I have a son who could be like you. He's only 2.5 yrs old but he has already caused some damage to the house, the car, the furnitures...and himself.
If I ever own a motorboat, I hope that 30 years from now I'll remember this thread and never let him use it.
GL with your parents...may I suggest you to hide until you're sober?

(almost bottom)
every year with new navigation officesrs we go full speed 30+ knots (close to 40) with blinds on the "windows" and you stear after what the navigation guy says. its hairy in our cuastal waters, but norwya is the leading nation (and sweden) when it comes to littoral warfare. we dont use sims. we train for real
this is one of the places we go full speed with blinds on windows in the autum (http://www.22mtb.com/Loggbok-bilder/0418/erleperle.jpg)

Tenker på å kjøpe en 4x4 selv for vinteren. La Bimmeren stå i garasjen.

Drinking does not solve problems when they are caused by drinking the first place. However, there is still a good chance that a problem not caused by drinking could be solved by such.
BTW, I bet your parents had wondered what to get you for Christmas. Now they know. A new outboard.

Drinking solves the problem of sobriety if you persist at it long enough.
-
A friend of mine ran his boat up onto an island at 3.00am one morning. He swears he wasn't drinking but noone believes him.
Ironically my father was out with my step-mother and some friends staying overnight on our boat and they were the ones who went over to see what had happened and if everyone was okay.
He had a huge gash in his forehead. My father took a pic of him sitting on the back of our boat on the way back to shore bleeding all over the back of the boat. He sent it to me as I was living in Canada then.
The whole of his boat ended up out of the water and sitting on its side in the middle of the island he hit. He must have been really moving when he hit it.

if your head hurts fron the "bump" and you are drinking heavily he is saying goodbye for a reason.
dude seriously, if you are having pains / flashing / dizzyness GO TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM NOW!
a concussion is not something to play with. you can seriously die from a clot especially when drinking. if there is trauma (wich causes clots thats what bruises are) alcohol thins the blood and can losen the clots.
hence a STROKE or worse.
good luck and hope you dont die sir
-
hi
why did i start this trehd now du
BOO!
-
either he's at the bar now, or lying on the floor paralyzed.
i really hope not the latter.
serious with head injuries please please see a doctor
my father just spent 4 months recovering from one, and can not drink alcohol for another year or he could die from the effects.

if you didnt kill anyone the only shame is if you dont learn the lesson. id burn you at stake for being young drunk and playing with boats but that would make me a big hippocrit. :)

Drinking caused your problem so now you're drinking more to solve it?? Glad you didn't hurt anyone else with your lack of control.
and condolances to your Dad. It's obvious from your posted conversation with your Dad he knows you. Sad that he knew right away you were drinking. Sadder still you had to lie to him. I'll give you credit for replacing the motor, but better you hadn't trashed the original in the first place.

Nobody can drive boats around here without sometime trashing something. In the boathouse at my parents summerhouse i have a "trophy" wall with all the props i have destroyed since my first boat. 5 in total so far + some other stuff. My dad loves sitting on the porch in his fav chair and watch people hitting rocks. He has a book where he grades the crashes and notes the times :D. When i was a kid and came home with a broken prop he usually had seen my crash and had some paint or whatever ready for me so i could pay for replacing the props by working for it :D
And btw... i was never drinking to solve the problem, but beeing drunk kida caused it.
-
Drunken boat driving is stupid, espcially at night.
I have been first on the scene when a ski boat hit a bridge pier. The force of the impact drove the passengers legs through the hull. She was dead. The driver's brain was splattered on the pier, he was dead. How would you like to have been the guy on the other end of the ski rope who saw it from a distance of 75'? His girlfriend and best friend dead, from drinking and driving a boat.
I have towed in a boat that was run over at night by another boat-2 dead, one disabled, drunk driver.
-
I do stupid things all the time, and im not afraid to admit it either.
-
Me too, but not this particular one.
-
Nils, you are just lucky that you are OK and not living in the US. You would still be in jail and have a myriad of rehabilitation classes/fees/penalties/jailtime ahead of you. We would have suspended your drivers license as well as impounding the boat.
Been there, done that. Glad you are not hurt seriously.

thx, im fine.. wrist still abit sore and a small dent in the old nugget.
The reason for not reporting it to my parents insurance company is because i would need to report the accident to the police and i would suffer atleast some of the consequences that you mentioned above. The alcohol limit for driving boats here is the same as cars.
-
Yep, BWI and DWI are one in the same here now. Just a suggestion, what about a marker bouy over that rock?
-

Yeah, but the goverment has to do that... we cant put up those ourself. it has to go on maps and stuff. Would be chaos if "civilians" put markers all around.
the norwegian coasline has so many that it is impossible to mark them all. only the shippinglanes and areas around very popular boating places on the coast are marked.
One really has to study drafts before going boating in norway or you are gonna sink before you get far :D
-
It's the same here, but there are dozens of "unofficial" markers on the lake.
I had a friend that thought he would steal a "trot line" only to find it was a marker for the tree stump that broke his propshaft.

hehe :D
btw, was a good thing that my neighbour was out setting his illegal net last night.. he towed me in. He will ofcourse never report me. Its great to have "criminal" neighbours sometimes :D

Btw
if anyone is wondering if im a complete dolt then..
im going out again, but with my boat this time (only 50hp).. and yes im having a few beers before i go.

If you are an overweight femal in a local tavern and loneliness is your problem, then yes drinking can solve your problem. Provided the men in the tavern are doing the drinking.

i knew that all i had to do was ask him if he would get the new engine without me paying for it..
he has always been that way cause ive always payed for my own mistakes.
he know ill pay for this one too..
this is why he has never yelled at me. by beeing the person he is he has never had to raise his voice cause he knows i know what is right and what is wrong.
some people need to yell and scream, others just have to look at you and they make you know that you have ****ed up.
he just called me and said that i shal NOT go buy a new engine.
For the first time in my life ive been told not to do what to me seems like the only thing to do. Maybe this is one of his lessons and ill prolly get it in the morning.

ok, my dad came to "visit" today. He inspected the damage and offered a solution that is not debatable.
He gives me the boat as it is now, and ill give them my boat and we are done. He said that i will get all their stuff sooner or alter anyway and i was the one using the boat so thats it.
Now ill will go loking for a refurbished 115-150hp engine on monday.
