Hope i dont get banned for this but here goes.....
1999 polaris 400 sport for sale.
paid 2200 last january for this ride
-new master break cylinder
-new A arm front left
-head shaved for a bit more power
-automatic (has pros and cons)
-2cycle
-2 wheel drive
-liquid cooled
-head and tail lights work
http://www.polaris-west.com/sport400.html if you want to see a pic of the ride. exceptions are, mine has a red seat and red oil and headlight plastic not purple.
and butloads of power. will do about 70 on the open road.
==============================================
why am i selling it? the motor locked up on me about a month ago. seeing as that im not a mechanic and my family is going through some money troubles...i have to sell it:( the 2cycle oil injectors failed causing it to run straight gas. i pulled the head off to confirm it.
if a person was to put 200 to 500 in the atv, it would make a great ride again. she looks good and the plastic is sound with 1 small exception that is barly noticable. the seat is solid, no rips or holes. this bike was mainly run on trails and has never been doubled on. the bike is in Ohio.
the price is 850 firm.
1100 to 1300 your investment would net you a great ride or return your money plus some if you decide to fix it and sell it. this model in about the same condition as mine sells for anywhere between 2k-3500 on the net in classifids and locally. if your intrested please email me for more details.
dragoon51176@yahoo.com
thanks in advance

You realize this BBS is international, right? Even if we assume you're in the USA, you don't even mention a state. I imagine your location might affect whether someone wants it, shipping 500lbs of motorized dirt beast isn't trivial.
-
right, thats why i mentioned that the bike is in Ohio (read the post more carefully). my target will be someone within driving distance. but im not opposed to shipping it if the buyer pays shipping costs. and i am also putting it up in the local paper and some net classifieds. I know posting it here is a longshot in the dark but ya never know who might want it.

$850.00 for a 5 yr old Polaris 2 wheel drive w/ a siezed engine.
(locked up does sound so much better than seized btw) :rofl
1100- 1300 total investment? Try maybe an extra $800... at a minimum. Not to mention shipping of around $500 to send it a 1000 miles.
Sorry you need the money, hope you find a clueless dolt to buy it...

no quarter i see..........
Firstly, its bad enough i have to get rid of my baby without some "know-it-all" poking holes in the original post. i know i prolly will not sell it to anyone here but its worth a try. And also the buyer would be responsable for shipping or coming to pick it up AS stated in previous posts.
in case you are unaware, ATVS tend to hold their value unless they are beat to hell and need alot of TLC.
try this, do a net search on 1999 polaris 400 sport. the majority of the rides you will see of the same year go from between 2.5 to 3.9k in the condition my ride is in (exception of a locked motor). now, i value my ride at about 2.9 to 3k before i locked it up.
==============================================
here is a few examples of prices for this ride.
http://biz.50below.com/freedom2point5/templates/40/usedinventory.cfm?FACILITYID=ps2518400 2700 cash
http://www.ebarkers.com/atv.htm 3900 cash
http://www.snowmobileauction.com/September.html 2500 cash
http://www.powersportsnetwork.com/usedvehicledetail/preownedvehiclecode=109983/Polaris/ATVs/1999%20Sport%20400/usedvehicles109983.htm 2400 cash
http://www.atvtrader.com/cgi-bin/atvtads/traderads.pl?category=pol4whl4&listtype=current 2750 cash
http://64.224.212.167/ubbalt/Forum6/HTML/000081.html 3100 cash
==============================================
since mine is well kept i consider it to be worth about 2900 when it was running.
bodhi you said 800 and thats true if your gonna build it up for racing. fact is you have no idea what is worth what and i proved it with links mentioned above. go ahead and check them out. truth is due to your unwanted reply to this post you have prolly cost me any chance of selling it here. its not appreciated in the least. when an uninformed person posts a reply that is simply unresearched or out of malice... others will read it and possibly even believe it.
simple math, 850 + maybe shipping = about 1300
1300 + parts = about 1500 or 1600
or 1100 for atv and parts without shipping. (stock parts)
or if i had the cash i could get a used motor from sharpies in chillicothie ohio for 150 off a bike that was wrapped around a tree and still runs HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
bottom line is, you cant go wrong paying out 1100 to 1600 or 1800 (if you want to build it up into a monster ie: 450 or 500 conversion kit). if your planning on fixing it for yourself then you have bought it cheaper than you can buy it running and in the same condition as mine is in. if you were to rebuild it and sell it you could easily make the money back plus some extra.
PLEASE do not post replys to this thread unless your intrested or have questions about the bike or have something to share about your polaris. Posts like bodis are are uninformed and have no basis to this subject. If you dont plan on seriously buying it or you are just looking to post for the hell of it DONT!. If you feel im in error email me and prove me wrong otherwise leave it be.
bodhi i have proven you wrong here bud, if you feel like discussiong it further feel free to email me and try.

Fat deal. Whats the price again?
-
It will need a new piston, and new cranckshaft and connecting rod bearings at least. The cylinder is probably chromed? In that case it will need a new cylinder aswell. Also the crankshaft and/or connecting rod may possibly have to be replaced. I would guess the parts would cost from 300$ to 800$. If the ATV is in mint condition it still doesn't sound like a bad deal, if you have the skill to repair it.
-
post pics.... then I will decide if it's "mint" condition...
Sorry dragoon, am a mechanic by trade...
-
not exactly mint but it doesnt matter now....
it has been sold
disregard

Bodhi Did what he shouldv'e done, And You get upset at him. For maybe opening some other players eyes shows little malice on your part. We all depend on each other here for input, And if you don't want someone here to post to your for sale ad then you shouldn't post in a community that looks out for each other.
If you were trying to sell a sign and I knew you might be guessing at cost I would surely post. On what a friend may need to think about, Everyone in this game I consider a friend, and alot feel this way.
2nd LIST price is always high so to show a list price that someones asking for is overboard.
Next time if you don't want others to comment JUST put atv for sale contact @#$%^$@yahoo.com

You my friend are the one who lives in a fantasy world... I called a local dealer, a friend, and he spit up coffee on the phone. So, while you claim to have no mechanical experience, yet are such the expert at rebuilding an engine... (btw it is easy,) are lecturing on the "high value" of your "baby", we look around and ask true experts, and they laugh. So, politely said, you're a maroon.
BTW, Rod, just finished a 1941 White flathead 6 for our halftrack the other day... is cherry.

Thanks man! I threw the motor out and tossed in a battery.
son LOVES it now... Gave you positive feedback too.
