Clerks was awsome!
Randal was the greatest char ever!!!

Hmmm... guess Kevin Smith has run out of ideas.
-
Not so Sandman. He's signed up to write and direct "The Green Hornet". Aaaah, Kato and Silent Bob.

You're making my point for me. ;)
-
Dunno about that. Tim Burton did a great job with Batman. I expect Kevin to really sink his teeth into GH since he is such a comic afficianado.
-
Yeah, but when Tim Burton did it, Hollywood had yet to discover what a cash cow comics were.

sandman
Superman I and II did pretty damn well in theaters.

True, but they were both released about ten years earlier.
I'd have to do a search, but IIRC, there weren't any successful comic book movies in between. Since Batman, there have been quite a few that have grossed over $100 million.

im just dense i guess...
what in the world is your point sandman?
you dont like kevin smith, and think this will be a dumb movie?
you dont like the idea of him making a comic book movie?
just trolling until you catch something like me?
at least let me have a clue

Clerks and Mallrats were awesome. The first 20 minutes of Chasing Amy was great too with perhaps one of Kevin Smith's best scenes ever ("What's a nubian?"). Everything since then has pretty much sucked.
I wonder if he can get back into the raw fun, dialog and humor that made the first two so great.

Without resorting to how much was made, there's been a pretty steady stream of comic book based movies since Superman, through the Batman series and since. But, there's been a recent rash of pumping out virtually every comicbook series known to man. I believe that's the bandwagon Sandman is talking about.
I have to agree that Kevin Smith seems to be running out of ideas. Clerks and Mallrats weren't great because of what they were based on... they were great because they weren't based on anything.
-
Yeah Mini D...clerks and mall rats were awesome, chasing amy was good as was dogma, the rest I could do without.
-
I would rank Dogma as my favorite followed by clerks, although I saw Jersery Girl on my flight back from NY a couple weeks ago and its not a bad flick. What makes it especially good is that it doesnt seem like his type of movie at all but he did a good job with it.

My point was at the top... Kevin Smith has run out of ideas. His last movie, Jersey Girl, didn't do so well. So, he's obviously going back to the trough and revisit the story that made a name for him in the first place. IMHO, his last good film was Dogma and that was made four years ago. I like some of his work, especially Clerks, Chasing Amy and Dogma, but it seems that he has a tendency to be self-indulgent.
As for comic book movies... they're looking at one thing... Spider man and Spiderman 2 grossed over $750 million. Either alone has grossed ten times more at the box office than any of Smith's films.
I also wonder how faithful Smith can be to the comic with Jason Mewes in the lead role as the Green Hornet. He's a funny guy, but it's a stretch to call him a actor.
-
Kinda a funny turn of events though in light of how badly they dogged comic book movies in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back".
-
I do not see Jason Mewes playing Britt Reid. Did they cast the film yet? I'm wondering who will play Kato. That will be interesting...

According to IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0582939/), yes.
I've heard rumors of Jet Li as Kato.
-
I checked IMBD. They list Mewes as the only cast member, but no role. If Kevin does cast him as Britt Reid, I may have to jump ship. He's not a good actor.

According to Smith's site (http://newsaskew.com/greenhornet/), it's confirmed.

Better read that again Sandman. It says he plans to use him somewhere in the movie. He's talked with Jake Gyllenhaal about the lead.

You're right. I read too much into that last one.
