I agree that the preseason games don't really mean a whole lot, but man they got burned tonight. A 20-17 loss is an easy one to chalk up to preseason but 31-0 says a lot about what a team can be in for. The Patriots have been the darlings of the media since training camp started and now they're starting to choke right on cue. A 31-3 trouncing by the Bengals and now a big ol' goose egg tonight. I can guarantee that heads are going to roll when it comes time to review the film from this one.

Lol, well, who knows, but did you watch the game? First of all, as you mentioned, not one starter from either the offense or the defense started the game, or played at all, we have a game in a week. Second, the game was scoreless after the first half, and it was 3-0 after 3 quarters. The Patriots backups outplayed the Jax starters, Leftwich was stripped of the ball several times. And the second string O'line did a decent job against a pretty good Jax defensive line. If I am a Jaguars fan, I would be worried that my first string offense was stuffed by a bunch of backups.
What you can take from this game:
1.) That if Tom Brady goes down, so will the Patriots. Rohan Davey is not the answer at backup, he proved that this preseason, he has looked horrible.
2.) That other than QB the Pats are deep, and in this day of the salary cap and parity, it is depth that wins you championships. And the Pats are stacked with quality depth. You only have to look at their injuries last year, then look at what they accomplished.
-
Before you get too impressed with the Pats backups outplaying Jax starters, take a look at Jacksonville. They were 5-11 last year. Not really a team to thump your chest about supposedly whooping. And honestly the Pats backups didn't outplay Jax's starters. Jacksonville moved the ball pretty well against them but just wasn't able to convert it into points. The Pats on the other hand had a hard time mustering a first down. There really isn't anything positive you can take from that performance at all.

Look at the Jags complete history...they are a team to thump your chest about...that took a few years off..

I watched the game, beggining to end, and yes I'm gonna say there is a QB controversy, but it is only Leftwhiches 2nd year..
Plus, our Defense stripped the ball from the Pats 7+ times.

What game did you watch? Leftwich was 4 of 8 for 24 yards, for a 3 yard average. The Pats 3rd string RB, Mike Cloud, had 93 yards and a 4.9 per carry.

Stats don't show the ebb and flow of a game. In the game that I watched Jacksonville continously marched down the field only to stall out or get penalties and shoot themselves in the foot. The Pats on the other hand didn't even get a first down until their third possession and still did nothing with it.
Cloud was running like a man on fire and just about had the momentum turned until he coughed up the ball.
Coolridr, didn't mean to knock your team, but you have to know that this just isn't going to be their year. Yes the Jags have been good in the past. I'm a Titans fan myself and have plenty of opportunities to see the pounding they can dish out. But Del Rio, as much as I respect the guy, just hasn't gotten it together down there yet. They aren't playing with the fury and passion that it's going to take to win a spot in the AFC south.

Look at the stats, where did they march down the field in the first half? Up til the last four minutes of the half, the deepest the Jax offense got was the Pats 45. Against 2nd and 3rd stringers, that's pathetic.
only to stall out or get penalties and shoot themselves in the foot.
Against 2nd and 3rd stringers, that should tell you something.
I'm a Titans fan myself
Lol, that explains alot.

Here's some stats for you:
Third down conversion: Jax 11-19, Pats 5-13
Total yards: Jax 451, Pats 222
Passing yards: Jax 317, Pats 95
Rushing yards: Jax 134, Pats 127
Red Zone efficiency: Jax 3-4, Pats ZERO, as in they never got there
In the first quarter the Pats went nowhere on each possession while Jacksonville was able to move the ball. They just didn't get it down into scoring position.

Our rushing didn't do too good...
But, our main TE and RB are injured...
Tight End: Kyle Brady, in the game with the Green Bay Packers had a ligement torn from his finger, and required surgery..
Running Back: Fragile Freddy, sore ankle from previous ankle sprain I belive..

The Jaguars never made it to the Pats 45 til under four minutes in the first half. Moving the ball??
We raise our second championship banner in 3 years next thursday, maybe you can come up and watch, cause you won't see anything like that down there.

We were one game away from the Superbowl, thats good enough for me..
Atleast I'm not a Bandwagon Patriot fan, and a Bandwagon Jag fan, been with the Jags since they played their first game, and hoped the Patriotis won in 2002 due to the fact that they are PATRIOTS, and that would go well with Sept 11th, and I didn't want the other team to win, which I belive was the Titans..

I watched the 76 Raider-Pats playoff game. I have seen more heartache than you can imagine. You would not believe how much I have seen being a Pats fan.

Oh yeah, where were you when they were born? I was living in Jax at the time, and was working at Joseph's restaurant on main street on the north side. I had just finished my shift and was hanging by the radio to hear if we got a team. I believe it was between Jax and 2 other cities and Tagliabue was making the decision at 4PM. It was exactly 4:13PM on a tuesday when he announced Jax had won the expansion team. I bought a shirt the next day, when they had the original logo. Do you remember the original logo? It looked exactly like the one the car manufacturer used, and they were threatened to be sued for it, so they had to change it, I still have the shirt.
-
Dude I bought a shirt too, wore it till it had holes in it and mom threw it away...
Do not question my Jag fanism..
Oh, and do you remember, the Pats were who beat the Jags in the game before superbowl...
Do not attack me...
And before you say your not, you are...

Yes, they moved the ball. That was why the ref was calling "first down" when the Jags had the ball yet remained silent when the Pats were on offense for their 3 plays.
Congratulations on your second championship banner. But as the flag goes up remember all the years before that the Patriots stunk it up before they won the big one. As for not being able to see anything like that down here, hehe. Just wait and see my friend. ;)

Not quite, the Patriots' defense(all backups), which included six rookies, held the Jaguars' starting unit to two first downs in three possessions and didn't allow the Jaguars to the Patriots' side of the field. You didn't see the game.

That is what makes it so sweet
