Title: How do you guys make screw heads?
Post by: oboe on September 02, 2004, 10:02:30 PM
Need them for the P-51 especially.  I've tried defining my own brush in PS with a crude screw head drawing, but I need to shrink it so much the antialiasing washes out all the detail.

Plus, with custom brushes in PS, you can't adjust the size of the screw head.

Kinda stuck.  I noticed that the default P-51D skin has Phillips type screwheads on it - I want that kind of detail if possible.

Thanks!

Im not quite sure what you are talking about.  Could you be a little more specific in your explanation?  (Such as location in relation to..., a picture of the bitmap with the part circled)

the pixel is to big to do it.  the computer resolution lives aroundthe pixel.  you cna't do it.

I use 4 pixels for the dzus fittings on the cowl and 2 pixels for the rivets.  You can use contrasting colors and they look about right at a distance.

BT         (Brown,Tan)
TB         (Tan, Brown)    Makes a good "screw" or dzus

BT         (Brown, Tan)    for a rivet.

Use appropriate contrasting colors for your scheme.

I might add that it depends on the skin.  As Glen says, if you use two pixels for each rivit you can use four pixels for the screw heads but if you only use one pixel for each rivit you will find you only need two to make a screw.  Follow Glens advice on the colors and achieve a drop shadow appearence.  The key is you're allowed some "artistic license".
