Title: Fruda's Sound Pack v2.0 Progress
Post by: Fruda on September 03, 2004, 02:45:34 AM
It's taken hours upon hours of editing and flight testing, but I'm almost halfway done! So far, I've gotten these completed...

The 109 series, the 110 series, the 190 series (including Ta-152H), the A6M series, the B-17, the Corsair series,
the Ju-88, the Ki-61, the P-40 series, the P-51 series, the Spitfire series (including the Seadire II), and the Typhoon/Tempest.

It's rolling along very smoothly. All plane sounds are real plane sounds (except for some gun sounds --- can't really find many of those). I also have some real US 50cal M2 sounds, along with British 303's.

This is going to be one hell of a pack. I'll post more updates tomorrow.

This pack will be dedicated to Mjollnir, who recently passed on. Mjollnir.

Lancaster III completed... It's a very tiring process to complete a bomber's sounds. Taking off just to hear the landing gear sound is a pain in the ass, because it takes almost a minute to do so.

More updates tomorrow.

La-5FN/La-7 completed.

EDIT: Just completed the Hawker Hurricane series.

More updates tomorrow.

I meant to post this yesterday, but anyway...

I've finished a lot. Among the newly finished planes are the Avenger and the Macchi series. I've also edited engstart files so they won't run over the threshold (7.557 seconds). Needless to say, it really improves the startup sequences.

I'll have more updates in an hour or two.

De-crackled and cleaned up a lot of sounds. Also finished the B-26B and the Boston III.

I'll post more updates as soon as I do more work on the pack.

One thing's for sure --- This pack will be huge.

Fruda, for all the work.

i have some questions.

i am using waffle's pack right now personally because i like a few of the sounds.

that's waffle;s by name only

i am using some of mitsu's bomb sounds and gun sounds, some of HTC's default sounds, some of your engine and gear sounds,

actually the only thing left from waffle's is the allied planes i never care to fly.

my biggest concern is the sound quality and bass rumble.

i live in an APT (an upper) and some of the sounds out there have such a "rumble" compared to others i can't use them

my other concern is the size of the folder. right now my "sounds" folder is like almost 100mb. thats HUGE and taxing on a lower processor (XP1800 with SB live 1 card NOT audigy II)

would you consider making 2 versions of the pack?

1 being the high quality sounds, and another with like 8bit like mitsu's for us that dont have tons of resources to spare.

ty again and i hope you consider it. it isnt that hard to save the files in a lower sample rate for a seperate release.

No problem. I have Cool Edit Pro 2, so I can make a pack of the sounds folder and downsample.

It takes about 30 minutes, but I'll do it.

I'll have to host the low quality version on a mirror site.

Ok, I've finished all the plane sounds. All I have left is the enhancement of the vehicle and misc sounds.

I'll also see what I can do about enhancing the engstart sounds on the planes.

would you like it?

it is a 190 radial eng flyby, sounds rgeat, but ther eis dopplar.

i "snipped" a 1.2 sec smooth sound in windows sound recorder LOL

i figured if you could get 1-2 seconds out of it you could dub it again at the end to make a 4 second eng sound.

I already have all real engine sounds, so no... I don't need another 190 radial.

All I have to do now is smooth the engstart wav files, and enhance the GV and Misc sounds.

You're really gonna like this pack. I know that only a few people actually like mine (dunno why so few do), but you'll get the most per kilobyte out of this pack.

I'll be doing updates (like on the first pack) if I get better source material for my misc sounds.

Don't be expecting them, because I've yet to find anything better than what I already have.

Ok, all GV/Boat sounds complete.

Please note that I still have a few days to go on this pack.

Remember that I'm currently smoothing the engine start files. Also remember that I'll have to normalize the gear/flaps.

After I do those things, this pack should be complete.

Looks pretty good, but I'm on a semi-tight budget as of late. Can't afford to buy that stuff, lol.

I'll look into in the near future.

I'm finishing the final touches on the 109 series. Engstart sounds have very smooth transitions, and the gear/flap sounds are just right.

Moving on the the 110 series... More updates as soon as I finish.

Ok, I've gotten a lot of work done in the past two days.

Still, I need to edit more GV sounds, and I still have more engstarts to smooth.

It should be done by the end of the week...

Still a ways to go until completion. Almost done smoothing the engstart files...

Just a reminder --- Every plane's sounds are true to life. From the 109-E4 to the Typhoon, you won't hear an arcade-style sound in the entire pack.

Early 109's have the distinct buzz, while later models, especially the G-10, have a much lower tone (although it's not any quieter).

190's, well, sound like 190's. Can't say any more than that.

Japanese planes sound quite nice this time around. The engines are actually pleasant.

The F4U Corsairs have that Pratt & Whitney hum. They're loud as hell --- but that's not bad, since they sound so damn good!

Then we have the fighters equipped with Allison engines. The P-38 has that subtle whirr, and it's unique scream. The P-40's are in a class all their own (the engine choke on the engine startup is great).

Russian planes. They sound as they should: Quirky, low-grade, yet powerful. Very nice for the bare-bones pilots of AHII.

Merlin engines... What can I say? They're quiet, yet loud. The P-51D is almost soothing...

Then, the Typhoon/Tempest. These things are LOUD, but they have that wonderful whirr/buzz sound. It really increases the experience of flying such a plane.

Of course, there's more... Too much to mention, actually. It's all a massive upgrade from other sound packs. Reasons?

Engine scream/hum/buzz/whirr, and prop wash effects. You also get that unique howl from the Ju-87, and the whistle that made the F4U Corsairs famous.

There's lots to look forward to. Lots.

Looking forward to your sounds Fruda , please post a fresh thread when there done :D

Ive got mitsu's and i just tried waffles .. waffles exterior sounds are cool and about 50% of the planes but there lacking in the mechanical sounds , slats ,flaps , the stuka siren ect , i like to hear the life force of my planes ... not just the engine .

I have my flaps set to 30% of normal volume, while gear is set to 45%. I have wind sounds (wind hitting the plane, as well as wind + siren/whistle sounds) set to a unique volume for each plane series. It's a nice, subtle effect.

It's not too easy to hear flaps and gear when the engine is running, and they're sill "soft" when the plane is still.

You'll be able to hear the mechanical sounds better than Waffle's, though. His are around 15% of normal volume, which is too low.

I'm hoping that I'll have the pack done by Saturday... I still need extra GV sounds, which Nefarious will be posting soon.

Engstart smoothing complete.

Now, I need those new GV sounds, and the pack will be complete.

Beefed up some sounds (Il-2m3 engine, N1K-2J engine, Yak-9 series engine, TBF engine, La-series engine). They sound very powerful now. Before I did this, these sounds had some serious problems with volume. They had no "strength".

All I need is the GV sounds, which I'm still waiting on.

More work in progress to keep me going until the new GV sounds are uploaded...

I'm redoing the gun sounds. I recently received 3 packs full of different gun sounds, so when this pack is done, you'll be getting the highest-quality gun/cannon sounds in AHII.

Yeah, I'm gonna start work on it again. I stopped a few weeks ago because that's all I was doing --- searching for sounds, remixing, cutting, and polishing. I figured I'd burn out sometime, and I did.

But, I'm getting enthused about it again. I've got some new ideas on how I should do things, so it won't take too long to finish once I start again.

The pack's complete. However, it's far too large to upload on my site.

I'll need somebody to host it.
