I've decided that im done with spitfires for a while, so now Im moving on to a B-17 or two. The first one Im attempting is the Memphis Belle. Theres so many skins for it, but Im going to try to find as many pictures as I can of one around one time period and see if I can get it done.
Hopefully in a week or so ill have a screenie, but rivets are gonna be tough...:)
a beta screenie, not a complete one :D

Im probably goign to spend a few weeks to a month on it. I dont care if its used or not, I enjoy making the skins for others to enjoy: In MA or off ah-skins.com
Yes its a lot of work, but I have fun doing it.
-
spade did you weather it?
-
yes. it was my first skin. so it wasnt good:P
-
Finished the Panel Lines and rivets. Now its time to overlay with white and get this thing on the road!
-
United, I don't think that Memphis Belle should fit in for B-17G and Memphis Belle is only B-17F, I didn't think HTC will accept it.
But I would like to see it :)
-
I know it probably wont be accepted, but like you, I want to see it :D

Heres a screenshot of progress:
I have the basic Camo along with the markings on the fuselage. I cant get the squadron code in the right place because of mirroring effects, so it cant be historically accurate.
I have also done basic weathering and color variations. Now all I need to do is paint chips and dirt.
Then I will begin work on the wings.
(Rivets on the nose were a b****!)

Dont complain i did all the b17 in paint. took me 4 weeks. :p

Very Nice United
is there any way to make the nose art like a higher resolution?
other than that WTG:aok
-
Only reasons I've seen for rejecting skins are -
1) Nose art would interfere with squad art.
2) Skin is not historically accurate (see below)
3) Aircraft model (see below)
a) As long as skins as historically accurate within the limitations of the skin itself (mirroring etc), there is usually no problem.
b) As long as HTC is not planning on doing the model e.g. Spit 8, they will accept skins for other model in this case Spit 9. One proviso, it must be outwardly very very similar.
Have a great pic of noseart if you want it.

The nose art is actually a picture I took resized to fit into the skin accurately.
Kev, the mirroring I ran into is on the fuselage itself. It mirrors what is on the left side of the fuselage over into the same spot on the right. The real Memphis Belle has the squadron marking DF right where it mirrors, so I either must move it to make it visible or omit it all together.
I did not even check about squad art, but since AHII doesnt have it open, is it even a requirement anymore?
Thanks for the info!

Alright! As a new member of my squadron's bomber wing, I've been flying the 17 quite a bit & was wondering if we'd ever get to fly the Memphis B.
Thank you, United, for taking on the project. I hope HT lets us fly it in the MA. :D
-
Good work, United
I'm still lookin' forward see your work on Memphis Belle :aok
-
I have completed about 95% of the fuselage. Since the last screenshot Ive added the green splotches, adjusted the squadron markings, and basic paint chips.
All I have left to do is scratching and wear/paint chipping.

I phoned up Skuzzy and asked him about nose art before I sent in the Nine-0-Nine and at that time he did say they wouldn't accept it if the nose art interfered with squad art.
You should download my Nine-0-Nine and use what you find useful. It has many embedded notes on where things are mapped and it's been cleaned of many unused areas which will also help in locating things. My hope in showing unused areas was that we might get a patch that remapped the bottom of the ball turrent.
S!

Oh, from the screen shot, you're clear on the squad art thing.
-
I myself think I'd prefer the original nose art than squad logos. I'm sure some don't feel the same though. It's a shame certain skins will be rejected solely on whether or not a fictional squad logo will be interferred with. Either way nice work on the buff
-
Of course a simple solution would be to have squad art on the stbd side instead of port side.
-
This bird has art on both sides, but it would be practical for other planes/skins.

I hate to bring this up....
The Memphis Belle was a B17-F model and didn't have the forward gun mounted under the nose.
The Model HT uses in the game is a B17-G model.
Just a little historical fact. :p
-
I know it was a B-17F and thought about it for a while before I decided to go ahead with it. HTC has accepted several skins that are of similar planes, like a Spit MK8 skin for an MK9, F6F3 for F6F5. I figured that there wasn't much difference between the F and G model of the B-17.
Besides, if its not accepted, there are two good things that came out of this:
1. There is a Memphis Belle skin available, even if its on the wrong plane. (Since its such a popular bird Im surprised it hasnt been attempted before)
2. I have a template to go by for future projects.
I figured "Heck, whats the worst that could happen: They say no?"

Excellent reasoning grasshoppa..... you will go far in life.
Now....
snatch this pebble from my hand :D

Ive gotten some paint chipping and things done now on the fuselage. Only about 2-3 weeks worth of work to go!
