I found a pain in my right elbow a few days ago and just ignored it. The pain got much worse, almost so bad that I couldnt take it anymore. I talked to a friend of mine who is also a doctor, and he said that I more than likely hyperextended my arm on the inside of the elbow.
I got some of those icey-hot sleeves and have had that on for a while.
What are some good ways to treat this without going to a doctor?

Go to a doctor. If you're lucky, he'll give you Vicodin. :aok

Not really. Many people of all ages have this problem. I coached a little league baseball team, 12 year olds, and a kid did this in the first practice.

Ive got a "healthful" supply in my medicine cabinet. :D
Dont want to go to the doctor. Every time I go I get diagnosed with a new disease...:rolleyes:

LOL hehe that must suck as he said go to da doc geez i fell down my stair this morning filling a little dizzy then try to run down da stairs i fall down hit my back hard :( it hurt but i live lol coundent take any air in 4 about 4min Scared da watermelon outa me though i was going to brake my neck

He recommended ice for the first 24 hours, then heat. Maybe some Blue-Emu cream to numb pain if necessary.
He said he couldnt give me a more detailed explanation without X-rays/further study.

The only treatment is to imobilize the arm (wear a sling), and let it heal a few weeks. Anything else is just treating the symptom, i.e. pain.

Thats what I was afraid of. I'm an active person involved in many outdoor activities, and along with work I don't have any time to keep an arm immobilized for that period of time.
Thanks for the information though.
Also, is there any way to strengthen that part of the arm? Its in the crease on the inside part of my elbow. I know theres no muscle there, but this isnt the first time its bothered me, just the first time ive hyperextended it.

I have hyperextended both knees down through the years kicking magneto powered Harleys. After the first time........get ready for more.

Don't know about hyperextended joints specifically, but the general rule for musculoskeletal injuries is rest, ice, elevation, and compression.
You want to keep icing until it doesn't swell anymore; hot packs increase circulation which helps in healing (later on) but also increase swelling.
I get a lot of leg pains after running, and ice and elevation seem to work best. I generally lie down with my butt in a corner and my legs extended up a wall a couple times a day for 15 min or so, when I'm reading or something. Maybe try something like that with your arm to reduce swelling in the joint.
Still, seeing a doctor is probably a good idea to make sure there's no ligament damage.

Well you’ve done the most important thing -- ask a bunch of flight sim guys on the internet.
If taking random pills you find in your medicine cabinet doesn’t work, you could go to the local airport, stick you arm in the baggage x-ray and ask the security guard to give you a diagnosis.
Seriously, if it’s not getting better in a few days, see a doctor.

Cry, that's what I would do.
No, just rest is good, I hyperextended my leg (huge swing at a ball and missed), but I haven't done it since. It'll go away in 3 or 4 days

Same sport, I threw one a little too hard and my arm didnt stop when I told it to. :lol

And so it begins :(
Have hyper extended both elbows, my right knee, and my left shoulder.
None of them are as strong as they were before it happened, all of them have repeating problems.
hate to tell ya this, but in my experience, hyperextension injuries do not ever get better, you just learn to cope with it.

I have a similar problem with my lower back. Pulled out a muscle and its never really gotten better. Hopefully this one will work out though.

This sounds a lot like something I remember...
One of my old bosses had this thing with his knees. You'd be walking down the street with him and then BAM! he'd hit the ground in total pain... grabbing for his lower leg and making some adjusting movements with his upper leg. Then he'd be fine and would stand up and continue walking.
He was in his early forties is all.
It always happened at the most akward moment. Walking into a meeting BAM! he was instantly on the ground. An important presentation BAM! on the floor. Giving a talk BAM! he hits the stage.
At first I used to be like "Oh Geeze! Are you OKAY?!"
Because like, what do you say to that?
I eventually got the hint, and pretty much, it never even happened.
It would suck, really suck, to have whatever prollem he had.
