wouldnt it be kewl if you typed in /.s it would automatically salute the last person you killed? if you killed more than 1 person it would display on channel name, name, name and so on. might need a cutoff number at 1 line of text though or it would get nasty.
a nice change would be if you could /.s and display it on country chan.
whatcha think?

Hate to say this, but too many only give a 'salute' when they shoot someone else down and say nothing when they themselves get shot down.
I'm against this myself, the loser should always take the initiative, if nothing else, it helps keep the buffer clear.
-
Yep, I was tryin to give a guy a salute earlier, was a good fight that i had barely won,,,his name was a mix of letters and #'s,
I finaly crashed into hill on the third time tryin to type it, lol

Agree with you Delerium , most folks are using the salute as a brag (even if they might not actually realize this).
You might as well say , I killed you - and I'd like the entire arena to know that I killed you , because I'm damn happy about it ;)
If I want to salute someone I killed I like to use private not general. If they saluted me on general I would return it , not initiate it.
To salute someone I died to - would be the only time I'd use general.
They're just the rules I like to live and die by , obviously each to their own.
As Delerium said, folks seem to do it the other way round , salute as the victor , not often as the vanquished.......

I am confused ....
If I see ...

in the buffer, I have no clue as to who won or lost. I just know that 2 guys that fought are acknowledging each other.

Yeah I know what you are saying Slap , but most use it when they win never when they lose. That would be what I generally see in the arena. So I have come to assume that in most examples the guy saluting first is the one that won - so in that case I stick with my original thought - that it can come across often more as a statement of succcess than a real
Take the initial post as case in point , he's not asking the system to the 3 pilots that just killed him , just the 3 that he just killed. What he really wants is an automated Kill macro, that tells the arena he just killed X , Y and Z.
It's just the way I feel about it , not expecting everyone to agree.

I vote against making it too easy to fill the text buffer. Besides, having a series of names strung together really would be bragging, not a salute. I can see some people doing a /.s ever time they get a kill.
Delirium
I think it depends on the way the looser dies.
If I bounce some guy because he's afk I certainly wouldn't send a salute however, after a good fight when I end up getting killed, a S! from the winner is perfectly all right. Most of the time I figure it's an acknowledgement that it could have gone either way or that I didn't give up when he had all the advantage. Some nights that can make reupping again a little easier.

"might need a cutoff number at 1 line of text though or it would get nasty."
as in the original post. wouldnt be a difference if the cutoff is 1 line of text. after all, it takes 1 line of text on ch to salute anyhow.
thoughts?

ahh i c what ya sayin, in that case it should not be displayed on the grey channel. it would be a better idea to display salutes on PM channel in white.
on the other hand, typing .s someone should still be a feature.

Happened to be flying today , and this was fresh in my mind.
Saw a guy saluting people every few minute's or so , only to see him land X kills in an ostwind. He was sitting on a runway somewhere shooting incoming planes/vulchers
So was/is he really saluting ( must have had some tricky fight's in that ostwind) or is he using the .s command as his " kill macro" .
-
That was Zazen, he gets off on that for some reason,
poor guy...;)

The few times I've been saluted have been from guys that have killed me and I imagine that is usually the case for most we see on "all country" channel.
On one occasion I private text messaged him and we discussed the fight. I didn't mind it that he was the victor initiating with the . I took it as a compliment, and after private discussion, that's exactly what it was. Every once in a while I do something right in an engagement and it was nice to have the other guy acknowledge that. It was also reassuring that to find that I was, and hopefully still am, improving in this game's required skills...even if I did end up getting shot down in the end.
I would have liked to salute back on the main channel, but I still can't seem to figure out how, which is why I iended up texting him directly. Every time I attempt to send a to someone on the ALL channel nothing shows up in the text buffer. So forgive my ignorance, but as a sidenote, could someone explain to me how to do it so that the next time I get saluted by a killer, I may return the salute politely over the main channel so as not to appear rude?
But I consider it a compliment coming from someone who shot me down to be saluted by that person. By doing so I don't consider it to be that he's bragging, since I'm no hot stick AH superstar. He's telling me, and letting everybody else know that whatever the outcome might have been, it was a good fight.
As the vanquished, I'm not sure I would ever salute someone first, unless they really did something amazing to kill me, since they already know they got the best of me since I'm down and they're not. Sometimes I die stupid and am an easy kill, and other times I put up a fair fight, and other times I actually get the kill. But I let the guy that shoots me down . If he feels it was a pretty good fight and feels so inclined to salute me, then so-be-it. If not, I don't have any hard feelings over it.
I generally don't guys I kill because I usually get my kills when they never saw me coming against fighters, and only with determination and a good attack plan against bombers. So since to me it would be more likely to be considered rubbing their nose in the fact that I caught them napping, I leave it alone.
I've only been saluted once by someone I shot down, and it was a guy I nailed from a 5" aa gun on a cruiser from 3.5k out as he climbed out from his attack. I appreciated that salute too, because I've been practicing that 5" gun accuracy at longer ranges and it was nice to see that the practice was paying off. But I'm glad I didn't send the first from that 5" gun since it seems to be the general concensus that doing so is equivalent to bragging when the kill was gotten from the ground or ship or a GV.

often in a fight i dont have a chance to salute a kill and by the time i get around to it the text has scrolled beyond and i forget who it was. by this time they are not watching anyway so it doesnt matter. i could however tpye in .s and hit enter while in a brief moment between kills in a furball with ease.

Hi Hack9... Type ".s " in any radio channel.
On the subject, I don't think in general that are used as a kill log. In general I think it shows class, whether the winner or loser initiates. I see it as acknowledging a good fight from either side...and I think most see it the same way.
-
I would prefer a .t (taunt) XX and a .h (harass) XX command ,XX being the number of time to repeat the command.
ie :
.t delirium 10
.h delirium 10
An alternative for this two commands would be a .s (shane) command

Thanks Phookat. :)

If you type .s in any channel, will this be displayed as
the grey text to the oposing country, or just the channel your in?
Been meaning to ask about this before, cause I sure would have liked to salute a few ppl.
-
It goes grey to everyone.

Can't win can you. You salute they whine. You don;t salute, they whine. I think that seing a
from the guy that just killed you after a good fight should be taken as a comliment. Seeing it as a brag shows more about the way you think than the way the person saluting you thinks. After all, only he knows why he did it. If I want to brag, I will go land my two kills instead of flying around until all 303s are gone.
Slap is right, seeing an does not tell me who won the fight, nor do I care if I was not involved in it.
If we fight and I die, I will . If I win and noone is on my six, I will . If I picked you off or you picked me off, I wont.
-
I use it both ways. However, I reserve it for being beaten one on one, or when (if I ever win) someone was very tough to kill. I see it as respect in two directions.
I would never salute someone that went down very easily, nor would I salute someone who caught me asleep. (Shot down while AFK, or in a furball)
We all know who the children are (adult or not) that try to rub someone's face in it. Think about it - IT'S A COMPUTER GAME! Measure the macho some other way.
